Tried my hand at organizing it, because I think it works well this way.
Red = Mario
Light Green = Yoshi
Yellow = Wario
Brown = Dk
Green = Zelda
Pink = Kirby
Light Brown = StarFox
Light Orange = Pokemon
Orange = Metroid
Dark Blue = Earthbound
Olive Green = F-Zero
Dark Red = Fire Emblem
Grey = First Party Series with only 1 rep
Purple = 3rd Party
6x10, 60 characters. The original starting cast of SSB is along the top row, plus two unlockables from SSB (the other two, Luigi and Jiggs, are not fromt heir own series). This also means that every series with more than one character (besides Fire Emblem and Wario, which weren't in SSB) is represented along the top line (excpet Yoshi). I feel this sort of evenly distributes all of the big-name main characters of these franchises. However, the order could be debated (Kirby's verticle column could switch places with StarFox's and it wouldn't make a difference. Same with DK, Metroid, and Zelda). However, Earthbound and F-Zero should stay to the far right to separate them from the SSB64 starters, and Pokemon can't be moved because its the only one that takes up and entire column. It could be moved to the right, but moving tot he left would split up the 3rd Parties.
