That's a really good idea, Viper. Before I mentioned the last boss being a sort of puppet master that uses the three oracles as puppets. Maybe that could be his second form in the final boss battle?
well, instead of pages being the essences, why don't you just keep the Essences of Space idea
and then collecting the missing pages will be like finding the seasons for the Rod of Seasons or being taught tunes like in the Harp of Ages
(why yes I can't remember what they're called)
make it all just storyline stuff, and the Great Maku Tree will tell you where it's sensing the next page when you get stuck at a road block
but then make it so that you need the essences of Space to get into the final boss dungeon since he distorted everything so badly in there that if you tried to enter, you'd get thrown back to the main village
and then we have the pages
here's a few ideas I have for this, if you're interested:
1. Translation (helps you translate text)
2. Grotto Shift (find a grotto, use it, and you can shift to Dark World; leaves a teleporter in the grotto in the opposite world)
3. Village Shift (use it anywhere; teleports you to the opposite world's main village)
4. Secret Map (use it to track down a dungeon that the Maku Tree can't pinpoint later in the game)
5. Free Shift (teleport between worlds at any location)
6. List of Names (you find this upon beating the final boss; he tries to transform into an even bigger baddie than he was before, and he proves completely unbeatable, so you find this and, upon using this item in the next fight, you erase his name, turning him to stone and your adventure is over)
That's also another good suggestion, oB2Ko. How about the pages are held inside the essences? Oh, and about the "List of Names" idea, only the power of two Oracles or Farore alone can erase a name from the Book. Maybe before you start the final form of the last boss, the three Oracles give you a bit of there power - just enough to erase one name from the Book. First, you beat his final form, then, you erase his name from the book. The Oracles, unconscious from being drained of most their power, wake up revived and well, blah blah blah, ending cut scene, blah blah blah.
that creates a problem then.
If he starts stealing farore's power AFTER she's turned to stone, then how does she get turned to stone in the first place? He wouldn't have the power to erase her name in the forest, I doubt Din and Nayru would do it, and surely she wouldn't erase her own name.
Didn't realize that before, sorry. Maybe... Link defeats his first form, Din and Nayru come into the boss room, as they stayed behind at the entrance to the dungeon, and together they add her name back to the book. The villain transforms in to the puppet master (Or whatever it should be called), they quickly give Link some of their power, bad guy possess them, Link beat him, erases his name, etc.
there's still a problem though. it still requires two godesses (or farore) to add or erase a name, but if that's the case, then it's impossible for boss dude to turn farore into stone at the beginning of the game.
As I said, until he steals farore's power, he doesn't have the ability to do so, Din and Nayro wouldn't erase her name, and Farore wouldn't erase her own name.
Unless boss dude somehow gets Din and Nayru's power first, it's impossible for him to turn Farore to stone, thus stealing her powers.
The "two goddesses" rule will have to go if you plan on keeping farore having her name erased and being turned to stone.
Actually, It was meant for him to force her to give him power at the beginning of the game, thus giving him the ability to add or erase names.
I see.
How would he go about doing this?
Maybe he threatens to kill Link or something? I dunno.
Killing Link sound nice (The way I said it sounds strange...)
din and nayru were captured by bossman and brought into the forest dungeon, link and farore go to rescue them, bossman threatens to kill the captured two if farore doesn't sacrifice her power, something happens to her page in the book of secrets?
idk.
But wouldn't that have to occur at the end if it was involved with the final dungeon? And how would Link meet Farore?

at the end, no, it would be the beginning assuming you go with the original though you can enter the dungeon at any time, however you must actually gather the pages in the book of secrets to open a locked door maybe? and as far as meeting eachother, this would take place after seasons/ages, so possibly nayru/din grouped them together? idk, not sure about the meeting thing. :c
sorry this is so awful, all I currently have to work with in this hotel is my laptop's touchpad.
anyway, this is my concept for his human form
Yeah, I imagined him looking somewhat like that. Maybe he could shoot lightning balls from his sword, similar to that of Ganondorfs in OoT?
Idea:
How about you fight him twice during the game.
The first time is after you gather the first four pages from the book.
The maku tree is sensing a disturbance somewhere, and sends you to check it out. Upon getting there, you're instantly transported to the dark world, where you find boss dude standing. He sees you, and after some "You again? You're annoying. Time to die." type dialogue, he closes off the area and starts to fight.
The fight is, as you said, him shooting lightning balls and you hitting them back.
Eventually, you beat him, and he teleports away, claiming that Link is too a waste of time and that he has other things to do.
...
Then, in the final fight, he has three forms.
First form is the same fight from earlier. After five hits, the battle stops. He spews some "YOU'VE BEEN A THORN IN MY SIDE FOR LONG ENOUGH! DIE!" stuff and throws off his robe in anger.
He then tries to attack you with his sword and can move really fast. Not sure how the battle would play out.
Then, after you beat him, he sits on the ground, gasping. Link walks up to him, and boss dude unleashes all of Farore's power that he stole, turning him into some huge monster, which is is third and final form. The "true" last boss, if you will.
also, possible sprite concept for human form?
