How I wish I could unthank external sources.
1. It ignores lots of positive aspects that made the game really great compared to the first. For one, like Tyvon said, classic controller support (not that I used it, I'm all for swinging the crap out of the wiimote), and countless other things, like multiple kicks, kicks into sword combos and vice versa, and the fact that the slot system is a lot more frequent (I got 777's about 5 times in one playthrough, and I NEVER got them in the first one).
2. He had no idea what he was doing sometimes. For one thing, the sword charging is practically the same as the first game as far as I can remember.. I can't really, because I NEVER used the charge in the first game, although I would have if I had realized I had infinite charge with his best weapon. I RARELY used it in NMH2, only when I knew it would be effective. If it charged fast, it would defeat the purpose of even fighting. It would be Megaman Zero style swordplay in 3D, which while admittedly cool, I don't want it. I want No More Heroes style gameplay, and that's what the sword charging is.
The bike scenes were always clunky, no argument there, but as for the Shinobu sequence and its jumping stuff, the jump was a fun addition to fighting that I enjoyed. Not for the platforming, that was clunky, but in regards to that room that took him half an hour, here's why he's an idiot who doesn't know what he's doing: As long as you are on the same plane as the switches he was trying to hit, you can target them and hit them with her chargable projectile attack. FROM ANY DISTANCE. It will hit! As for her being weaker, I didn't notice that really, I thought it was about the same as Travis with his Bloodberry. What created the ILLUSION of her being weaker was the first noticeable addition of those 7 foot tall katana freaks who are MUCH stronger.
I also love how when he brings up issues like the controls fucking him up he shows the battle with Letz Shake, a battle focused on simple timing and dodging attacks telegraphed from a mile away. If you've got working ears, you'll know how long it will take for Shake to pound the ground, and if you can WALK, then you're good. No serious control-requiring aspects here. I also love how he talked about how he loved the interesting characters, when showing, in my opinion, the two LEAST imaginative characters from the game, those being the prison lady (forgot her name.. was it Cloe?) and Million Gunman, the lamest of the lame.
3. The controls aren't BROKEN. In the tiger sequence, it's meant to be blinding fast and hard to control, you're a freaking tiger. But it's not THAT hard, I've never missed a slash with the tiger. It's wild and crazy, and I love it personally. As for the combat, I love it by comparison to the first, which I still love. I think what is putting this guy off is the fact that enemies are SMARTER, they team up on your ass and beat the living shit out of you if you let them.
4. The comment on the music is a very personal opinion. I actually thought that the music was better than the first, in the sense that the in-level music now features variety instead of variations on the same general theme song like in the first one. Don't get me wrong, I loved that aspect in NMH1, but I think it worked once and you shouldn't milk it. I loved the soundtrack choices. But once again, that's my opinion, can't really make that a legit review point. For example, tons of people I've seen on sites have raved about Margaret's boss music. I think the vocals in that sound TERRIBLE. The beat is catchy, but the vocals are.. bleh. My opinion. I prefer the Destroyman boss theme.
Okay, rant over. Commence head bang!
