everyone seems to be downplaying it as another flavor of ds, but really it seems no different from the gameboy evolution
gameboy > gb pocket > gb color > gba > gb sp > gb micro
DS > DS LITE > DSi > DSi XL > 3DS
According to nintendo, this is actually supposed to be the next system but still retain backwards compatibility.
It's the next generation of the DS like the GBA was the super nintendo to the Game Boy being an NES.
Gamecube level graphics aren't confirmed, but they're a strong possibility.
Essentially, this is the 3DS's gamecube to the DS's N64.
I'd rather wait til I hear more details on this
Otherwise this kind of seems like a wasted opportunity just to shit out another pointless DS, just like how Micro was the useless re-edition of a GBA
right clearly this is not going to be like the upgrade from ps1 to ps2 or n64 to gamecube or xbox to 360
nope
i mean its not like backwards compatibility(which means next gen which in itself means new system entirely) was mentioned in the post right before yours
nope
that never happened
I've got high hopes for this thing.
Hopefully it doesn't end up like the Virtual Boy

I would have thanked this post
also
now that I think about it, there have been no zelda remakes
I'm not talking the ports with additional content like oot on the gamecube or lttp on the gba
I'm talking a full-on overhaul
there is no such thing in the zelda series
(BS zelda doesn't count. I'm talking international releases.)
I really like HAL_Laboratories' design. Looks like it would play comfortably with my hands.
I like the first design by HAL_Laboratories and I really like Dogenzaka's design.
Both HAL_Laboratories designs are probably the ugliest DS designs I have ever seen IMO. Especially the second one.
omg...
Wait isn't there a DSi XL coming out as well which isn't 3D? (

Why do we need this many versions of the DS... christ this is getting out of hand.
In all honesty I can't see a handheld doing true 3D. I mean if you look into the tech of 3D TVs it's pretty expensive. So maybe we'll get some layered 3Dness or maybe, like some have suggested, tilting the stylus towards and away from the screen will do something but I think Nintendo might be stretching the term 3D here.
I mean the Virtual Boy was hardly virtual reality (oI should know - I own one. Damn robot boxing game is damn impossible mind...)
Because people will hand them fists full of cash?

true despite the fact sarcasm was used, but I'd rather not get an update of a DS just for the sake of more powerful graphics, memory and backwards compatibility.
The DS is perfectly fine right now, and I think it could at least hold up for another 4 years.
Still, until I hear something that might grab my attention, I might just pass on this. I'm tired of the fact that Nintendo tends to shit out a bunch of portable systems rather then actually focusing on what can be done with what they have.

If this was true then PSP wouldn't exist, just throwing that out there.
