I haven't seen it said officially (it wasn't in nintendo's press release) but some news articles say it'll probably be out by March 2011 (the end of the current fiscal year)

Yeah, it's short enough that I can't buy a new DS until then, and long enough that playing my old DS phat is really really annoying.

as much as I want this to happen I highly doubt this opinion will become fact
just sayin seeing this DS has twice as much power compared to the PSP
Wherever there are indie games (3DSWare), there will be sprites.
Not every indie company can afford nice-looking high-poly 3D models. Not to mention that they can still look amazing on a 3D platform.
