No 2x zoom yet, will add that next.

::The fire chief of the Losantiville fire department, he asks the player to challenge him to introduce the him or her to Pokemon battling after Professor [tree name] gives the player an early Pokedex.
He at first battles you with the department's Houndour (akin to the dalmatian), sure he will win. Once you beat him he get choked up and tells the player he or she should not expect anything as it was just for practice. He tells the player if he or she wishes to obtain his badge you must fight him in his gym with the rest of his Pokemon.
Just whipped this up, first gym leader.
As for the setting/story, I only have a general idea so far. Basically I'm scrunching American history form 1800-1900 into one smaller time frame. The game will begin with a Huckleberry Finn feel-- the main character lives on a farm whose land has been passed down for many generations. It is beginning to become stale and your family needs to move locations. Your family is very conservative and you have little knowledge of the world around you or of Pokemon battling. Before you family heads out, your childhood friend (the gender you did not pick) wants to give you a Pokemon from his/her family ranch and lets you pick between Torchic, Totodile, or Turtwig. Your family packs up their belongings in their covered wagon and heads west.
Your destination is the boom town of Losantiville, a city built near a waterfall on the Missouri River (will probably change this name to fit the alternate universe of Pokemon). This city is one of the many cities that specialize in river commerce, with their main duty being to take the steamboats off the river and place it back on the other side of the waterfall. On your way to this city, your family will stop to camp in the wilderness where your father teaches you about catching Pokemon and hands you a primitive Pokeball to catch a Pokemon with in the wilderness around you. This Pokeball has a 100% catch rate and you cannot move on until you use it on one of the Pokemon in the grass around you. This also gives you a chance to do some grinding with your starter and your newly caught Pokemon.
When your family reaches Losantiville, a steamboat is in the process of being picked out of the river. On this steamboat is a Pokemon professor, traveling down the Missouri River to study the Pokemon that live there. She sees your Pokeballs and asks if you are a trainer, explaining that she is working on an electronic Pokemon encyclopedia with her superior, Professor Oak. The professor gives you one of her prototypes, and explains that in this early version, data may only be collected by touching the 'dex to a Pokeball with a Pokemon in it, and demonstrates it on your two Pokemon, then hands it over. Heath, the gym leader at Losantiville witnesses this exchange and asks you what you know about Pokemon battling, and then asks if you wish to battle his Houndour, to get you introduced in the battling fever. After you defeat or lose to him he will give you a conditional dialogue depending on the outcome of the battle, and invites you to his gym to fight him for a badge. At this point you can explore the nearby routes to grind and catch more Pokemon before fighting Heath. He will be a difficult first battle and will require you to grind a fair bit as his Pokemon are high leveled for being so early in the game.
This is all of the story I have for now, but other areas will include a mill town further down the river, a wild western themed city farther west, a steam punk industrial city in the north, a native American encampment, and a technologically advanced city in the east.
That's all i got right now.
