As most of us know, tSR is where pretty much every fangame maker gets sprites. However, when a fangame maker uses clashing sprites they get bashed to hell and back. That's why I propose Project Universe.
Project Universe's goal is to sprite as many characters/items/backgrounds as possible from as many games as possible, from the Atari to the Wii, in a single, universal style. Not only will this greatly increase tSR's custom sprite sheet count, but will allow for some much better fangames.
You may sprite any character you wish so long as somebody else isn't doing it already, but before that we need to decide the style. If you're interested in helping decide the style, please create an example of what you think the style should look like. The style should be relatively simple so everyone can sprite in it.
That's all for now, I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!
I love this idea, I'll try a style soon~
wait, what about certain anime?
EDIT: ehhh, too tired to think of a style now X<
Well the style is gonna have to be something simple enough for many people to contribute to, but stylish enough to grab people's interests.
Nothing too complex, but still looks good.
^Perhaps a pixel version of Cel Shaded graphics, then? They tend to have visual appeal while not being that complex.
This is a really good idea for a project.

You mean like M&L style or Jump Superstars?
Well we'll have to gather some of the most brilliant spriters on this forums to put their minds together on something.
I'd love to contribute, aside from making the style, my personal styles are always so outlandish.
How about Jump Ultimate Stars?
Isn't there already a style in which one can sprite in to get that universal look?
Card Saga Wars style?
This is surprisingly inactive... Maybe because it actually requires some brain power instead of diving into spriting?
Ahem first I propose we decide if it actually will be side-scrolling or top down sprites.
How big are they going to be?
Those are some questions that need to be asked.
Well, TSR(including me) is known to be a very lazy community so it may not be a sucessful project
The style would have to be simple and not too big
Yeah that's what I said in the first place.
I'm still waiting for some really expert spriters to submit their ideas. I was never really good at coming up with a unique style, rather using already existing ones.

the problem is that its too ambitious
the task of making a perfect style for everything and then spriting everything is unbelievably difficult
im willing to bet most people just don't think its possible and would rather not waste their time on something that's bound to fail
(note that this is not my opinion exactly, i think its overly ambitious but i'd love to see it make some progress)
Yeah I guess you're right. But I do agree that fan games would be a lot better with matching sprites. Imagine how great Mushroom Kingdom Fusion would look if everything matched.

Absolutely, matching sprites is pretty much a necessity for fangames to be taken seriously and to look good. I just don't think one universal project would be feasible.
If you ask me, I think attention should be focused on the SSB Project as opposed to this. It already has a ton of sprites and many just need to be animated now. I mean it covers pretty much all of the important Nintendo universe characters, and many others as well.
plus its been going on for like 5 years it needs to be finished sometime
