koopaul you're completely missing the point here
dithering is used horribly incorrectly by pretty much every ""pixel artist"" ever
there is literally 8 people who can actually use dithering correctly
rokkan happens to be one of them

A straight-up patterned dither is repetitive and boring, anyways.
A lot of people dither for texture, when in reality half the time it's a different texture altogether that would need to be used in the first place. Dithering is more like a subtle transition between shades, think of it as the end of a brush stroke when everything fades lightly; dithering is supposed to add that effect.
It definitely doesn't look good on small sprites, when you're going for readability over detail. It's useful in some situations, though. Definitely not in anything here unless it's going to be really subtle.

anime= no dither at all. you dont want rought edges on cell shading because you just dont want them because it looks bad(unless you're aiming for a rought look but thats not the case here)
also beware of over-Antialiasing things, you want things to look smooth yet not blurred. some colors dont need AA at all, like the face's skintone and its shadow.
also, fix that right shoulder because its way off where it should be in that 3/4 perspective.

your avatar has dithering

I don't like editing other people's work without asking, but I was wondering if the advice I gave was sound.
I did a few spikes on the side of the hair very quickly to see if it worked, and it does seep to break up the plasticness of the hair, but you'll probably want to make the zig-zagging thinner and of more variable lengths.

it doesnt look good on small sprites when the contrast between tones is too high(ie: black-white/yellow-red/etc), wich is clearly not the case in dex's avatar who's colors share a similar hue hurr de durr

basically, to sum it all up, Innocence: your style sucks because the majority of the people who've posted in this topic think it sucks. also you can't draw anime because the majority of the people who've posted in this topic don't like anime. im sorry, but if you don't bend over and suck everyone's dick you're never going to make it in the pixel art field.
draw some cool things like dragons or race cars :]
or make a mockup of a game that will never be made!! we all love those

we're telling him to do something different because his anime work feels so boring, uninspired, and lazy compared to the other /styles/ of work he does
he's nailed cutesy and has tons of character in those other styles, but he still insists on doing extremely stiff anime characters with 29763 different lightsources on them

we should get a system to broadcast art to the entire world so we could gather the opinions of the entire world instead having to post in a spriting forum where only a few would have acess to give an opinion.
