Mention something about attachments since everyone seems to ignore the sticked thread in big letters below this one.

As soon as mods actually start warning people for breaking that rule, I'll add something more than this:
about it to the post
Quote:8. The rules. There's a pinned thread in the RULES FORUM, and there's several pinned threads in Sprite Discussion(including this one) that tell you how to behave. If you find yourself too lazy to read even one of the four threads we have here explaining how to act, go ahead and just get the fuck off of the forums. So on that note, when you're done with this thread, visit this thread, and this thread.

If I may...
Could you add a line asking newcomers to refrain themselves of saying things like "This is my crappy sprite" or "I know my sprites suck, but..."
Lots of people still believe that by saying these things, they are automatically entitled to a special treat.

yeah, this has been happening a lot too.
In a sense, those kinds of comments are a sign that people don't want critique, and that's what sprite discussion is for isn't it?

Too lazy to read right now. Did anyone cover asking for critique, and then turning it down?

People who gives "advice" without being spriters themselves or being way less good of what they believe should get a line or two here as well.
Too many people tries to look "wise" by merely parroting out things they understand nothing about or tries to defend someone's shitty sprites because their own sprites are shitty as well, meh.

i mentioned people who give advice without actually knowing what they're talking about, or without knowing how to word what they're saying
but saying that people who are talentless or people who have no experience with art of any kind are completely incapable of giving crit is just garbage. that's like saying music critics can't be taken seriously unless they're trained classical musicians or that i'm incapable of saying my truck is a pile of shit because i've never built a car
the "defending someone" part of your post i only slightly agree with. when shitposter 1 defends shitpixelartist2, 10 times out of 10 it's because shitposter1 can tell shitpixelartist2 is more like shitposter1 than they are the rest of the community, so they defend shitpixelartist. not because they're both shitty, but because they're "nice" and "normal" "unlike the rest of tsr"

I was mostly refering to cases when a newcomer, or even veteran (who has only posted recolors or splices as best) butts in and offers advice and suggestions that not even himself follows, but he still offers it to look "wise"
Like for example, the guy who says that a recolor is OK when it's properly used (he never says HOW) or tries to support his advice by comparing himself to professional pixel artists- for example, encouraging others to recolor sprites claiming that it helps to "build their skills" because professional games use recolored characters (As the typical Green Jelly, Purple Jelly (poisonous), Gray Jelly (made of metal) and Golden Jelly (made of money)) so recoloring is perfectly OK when you want to create "new" characters.
I'm not saying that non-spriters shouldn't be allowed to talk, but most of time, and despite their good intentions, they end up doing more harm than good.

Quote:9. On the other end of the spectrum, when you're trying to give critique but aren't sure exactly how to explain what you have a problem with, try your best to explain what you mean WITHOUT coming across as arrogant, or a smartass(that's the important part. You can try to explain what you mean, we don't have a problem with that. What we DO have a problem with is people like bnewton did in this thread.was essentially all i felt needed to be said on the subject, but if more needs to be said i guess i can add it in there?

make it a bannable offense if a new member makes it obvious that they have not read this topic
or at the very least a warnable offense
or throw them into a member group which would make them unable to post in here until they can show proper behavior

requesting a rule where fake banned members with colored usernames besides red are only allowed to post walls of text every 3 months.
