Its happening to everyone. The whole site is down, hopefully Runouw is fixing this.
Unfortunately, it may not be up for a bit, but I need confirmation on this.
EDIT: A message from Runouw via another site
Quote:WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED!?!! There's a file called lol.php in the main directory of the website, and it used all ALL of my bandwidth, my account has been PERMANENTLY suspended...

I'm sorry, apparently, I think my website got hacked and now my web-host is angry at me.
I'll find a new place to upload the engine soon.

Man, that sucks horribly, Runouw
I hate hackers with nearly every fiber of my being.

You'll be glad to know that the site is back up, so the engine now works again.
07-16-2010, 05:23 PM
Yeah, the site is back up. Turns out it wasn't a hacker, just someone messed with something that caused an infinite loop and temporarily shut down the site.

Well that's a relief, good to see the engine back up and running.

Hey Runow, what about make 4 slots for customized characters (those made in the characters editor)? Of course, let each other be unlocable (basically after you get all the secret characters) and restrict its uses for versus mode only. The result will be something like Mugen. I know that you were against letting customized players being playable, but why not for improve game contents?

I love that card engine.

I was planning on eventually making it like custom Cars in F-Zero-GX. Where there's extra slots on the side or whatever and you can load the character like that.
I don't know about allowing the character designer in the full version of the game, because anyone could make a box and give it super powerful attacks then cheat their way through the rest of the game. But if we do allow the character designer for the full game, that would remove any worries of arguing which characters belong in the game, because if you really want a certain character you can always download it.
I think the character designer should be either unlocked late in the game, or custom characters are disabled on all modes except VS.

Yeah, that sounds reasonable, if we do put the characters designer early in the game it would be like a cheat sheet and it be too powerful and be able to win through the game. Also if we do have online matches then it would be really unfair. Maybe we can put it in later in the game like you said!

I think the best way to go would be as Runouw suggested. Only allowing created characters in versus mode.
That's the mode most people care about anyway. Of course, it'll be a shame not to be able to play online with the created characters, but what's to stop every single person you vs from using ultra-powerful characters?
Though.... you could always implement some sort of statistic system.
There can be five main stats.. or something.
Strength: - - - - - - - - - -
Weight: - - - - - - - - - -
Speed: - - - - - - - - - -
Jump: - - - - - - - - - -
Secondary Jump: - - - - - - - - - -
As in any other game with this system, you'd be given a set amount of statistic points to use... e.g. 30, and it's up to you how to designate them. For example:
Strength: | | | | | | | - - -
Weight: | | | | | | | | - -
Speed: | | | | - - - - - -
Jump: | | | | | | - - - -
Secondary Jump: | | | | | - - - - -
Which would be an example for a pretty damn strong character, whom lacks quite a bit in speed.
You could always spend all 30 filling Strength, Speed, and Weight, but then your jumping height would be useless, and as soon as you're knocked off the stage, you're pretty much screwed.
But I'm not entirely sure how this could work on such a grand scale. What are your thoughts, Runouw?

Yeah, thats what i thought.
Anyway, there's a way to use patched/custom chars in online battles, right? I mean, the decripted content may pass easily throgh the conection.
Another thing, I think that in the character editor should have a place for the kirby's hats, so make them will be easy and kirby will not be so heavy in terms of data. What you think?

Since the game's online mode runs on P2P, it wouldn't take long at all to transfer an entire character through the internet. (A completed character is likely to be less than a megabyte)
Perhaps in online mode, there should be an option where you can allow or disable custom characters, if you disable, it won't let people use custom characters against you in a fight.
And since online mode wont be a blind "Searching for opponents" like it was in brawl (it will use a "create room" and "join room" system). I suggest the the creator of the room can choose if custom characters are allowed, and people who join can only play as the custom characters he has on his game. [Pretend joining a room is like going to someones house and playing the game off their computer as another player. That means you can only use the characters he has on his computer. If you don't want spammy super-powerful custom characters to ruin online mode, create your own room where the characters you have are fair.]
And I guess if you beat Classic, Adventure, and All Star with every character, we should allow people to play those modes with custom characters. There's no loss in allowing that is there? We could even have it allow you to play with custom characters from the begging, but just make sure that you don't unlock or gain anything from it (that means no coins or cards gained from playing it)
