most of the time in sotn there aren't any boss doors, you just walk into the room and there's a boss

This. And it's annoying as hell.
I actually kind of like it that way, tbph

I guess it adds a bit more pressure for you to up your game to survive until you get to the save zone. The thing about old games is that they gave you unrelenting difficulty at some parts in order to help you improve at playing them through all of your attempts.

It's almost like gaming exercise.
Actually if I remember correctly (and correct me if I'm wrong) I think if you go through a boss door you can quickly retreat back once you hear there's no music in the room. However, I think it's impossible to do if the boss immediately initiates a cutscene, or if the boss is right in front of you when you enter, like in a smaller boss room.
Actually I think guycott is right
this saved me from dying a few times
Okay, I'm stumped. I got to the part where I'm at the broken stairway by the clocktower. If I jump down, it just brings me way back to another part of the castle. Am I supposed to backtrack to find something, or is there a way to cross this thing?
you have to find shit. chances are, you've barely even scratched the surface

the top of the stairs is dracula's room, but if you just got to the staircase you have a good three to four hours of game left

there's always warning signs

ie. there's a save room a few blocks away

The map saved my ass in numerous occasions in this game

and I'm a megasir so I beat Galamoth using the shield rod + Alucard Shield

I might revisit the game and actually beat him without being so cheap
oh and I adored OoE, but I just hated the ending. I didn't want to go through all that for a bittersweet moment :C
No matter how fitting it was Very Sad

Fun and addicting as hell, though. I like the simplicity in the RPG system.

true

the game is hard, but it's a satisfying hard
actually on average i usually find the castlevania games to be way too easy /:

harder than super metroid, yeah, but thats not saying too much (excluding classicvanias)
