Quote:And maybe we mods should start to be a little more ... Well, to warn more both idiots who don't read the rules and start causing trouble AND veteran members who trolls too much (trolling bossing newbies? Hell yes! Being a total dick for no reason? No)
was literally just bringing this up to kat
there's so many rules that say YOU WILL BE WARNED FOR THIS BLAH BLAH BLAH (i break a few of them from time to time too, don't think i'm not talking about myself too) and literally nothing ever gets done
gonna bring this up too
as fun at pt was when it was happening, it turned into a shithole because mods didn't do anything ever
this is literally tsr right now
I do some warning from time to time, specially on necroposting. It's not as aggravating as everything else, but I think I managed to educated a few newbies (or at least bring them to read the rules)
I really don't like warning and stuff, but looks like it's unavoidable. I think causing trouble at the internet and showing around your e-penis is something so irrelevant that those people are really pitiful.
But I don't mind to wear the mask of evil mod and helping out on taking down some guys, specially on Sprite Discussion and stuff. I'm a little rusty but I used to love it
Well I remember when we used to enforce the rules we were hated for it. (Some a little unjustly not gonna lie but I've learned my lesson for it.)
I can understand enforcing the rules a tad bit more but members have to understand the rule line too and that it will have to be given fairly and not just at the new members who mess up.
Well, friends exists not only to help you out but to give you a deserved warning if you're overdoing it.
Also look at 1up. I can't think of somebody that was banned as much as him and he's still around and making fun of it :p If they can't see it's not really personal... Too bad, I guess
have i really been banned the most because if so:
HAHAHAHAHA
To put things simply in my view, I believe the requests forum is a good thing AND a bad thing. The chance to ask for help is a good thing, but the constant bashing of practically EVERYONE who posts there is ridiculous. I understand if their request is totally ludicrous, but I, for example, have posted several simple requests for help and there's been hell to pay for it. There's really no level of respect for other forum members there and the place has about the same level of restraint as that 'Groan Zone' thing (which I for one completely despise). I believe people should be constructive in their comments rather than hateful. I've had to have my personal project topic closed dude to people being...well...quite frankly a bunch of inconsiderate jerks who remark in the most detrimental ways and have the unmittigated gall to call it 'constructive' when it's obviously meant to insult. Since then I've been wary of posting in the request forum as it seems the only ones who read and reply to them are the trolls that exist on this board.
I agree something must be done, but not in completely removing it either, unless we can't manage to maintain some order there.
I think the request forums can be a really good thing too. That's why I want it fixed because I notice many people who make reasonable easy requests that go unnoticed because people are too busy bitching about the guys who don't use it properly.
I didn't read the rest of the topic BUT-
I think we should just have a group of "semi-mods" or something in charge of the requests forum ,handing out special warnings for abusing the request forum, so in turn no regular mods or admins or whatever don't have to deal with it, sort of like a Request-Forum Regulator
the request forum isn't active enough to require mods,
the sprite discussion board(and i guess the request forum as a result) on the other hand really does need a few people paying attention to it, because our current mods tend to ignore that area of the forum until something gets really bad and requires a lock and several warns to be handed out

Yeah, I guess your right, but anyways, someone does need to look over Sprite Discussion, there are multiple topics in their that are pointless
To be honest I think the request boards should be it's own board rather then being a sub to the sprite discussion, seeing that we've expanded in so many ways (notably in creating models, sounds and texture resources). Might be a good idea, but I'm not so sure on it.
Quote:Maybe the request forums should be divided into two:
- Requests : Small stuff, like 4 posing sprites, tops. "Simple" ripping (open to discussion). One request at time. No $ involved
- Jobs : Bigger stuff, like fully-animated characters, multiple requests. $$$$
this too, after what happened with recent events I can't say we shouldn't do this. The only thing I kind of disagree on is money alone because then we'd have to open up paypals. So the stream thing isn't a bad idea ether.
I only read half of the comments, posting though
Imagine the Requests forum being a machine withtwo gears, one being the requesters and the other, the fulfillers. If it worked right, both gears would move and the Requests forum would be great
But this is not the case. The requesters are asking too much and/or incoherently, and the fulfillers hardly fulfill the requests. Both gears aren't moving, thus rendering the forum useless. I know, the requesters are acting like shit lately but it's not totally their fault; we should move too.
I mean, it's written on the rules that the requests have a possibility of NOT BEING DONE. This causes the requesters to act like gaybies (gay+baby) to grab our attention. If they act like idiots, we end up kicking out from the forum and the request isn't completed. This creates a vicious circle, and both sides don't work.
This is what I think about the requests forum, might be wrong because I rarely visit there (and I should.)
You can't charge people to rip sprites. That's retarded. There is no excuse to charge people for ripping sprites from a ROM they shouldn't even possess in the first place.
Custom sprites? Sure thing! That's totally fine! But when you start charging people for sprite rips, this site turns a free service into an illegal, paid one, and next thing you know, the site is gone.
If you're going to put in a note about charging for sprites, it should be for customs, and customs ONLY.
Watch as SengirDev reiterates that a Jobs section is needed then goes off on a tangent:
The Requests section is exactly that, a
request section. The definition for "request":
Quote:the act of asking for something to be given or done, esp. as a favor or courtesy
This implies that this part of the forums is for people to do things as favors, not for money. It should be called the jobs section, as that is much more appropriate. And this should apply to textures, 3D models and sounds, not just sprites. A requests section should be placed in either all of the resource sub-forums or in middle ground. Oh wait, there is no middle ground. You guys wanted to expand into other forms of game resources? Then don't half-ass it. A reboot of the forums might not just be a "good idea" as much as it might be "necessary". The majority of the users on tSR are obviously spriters. Not composers, modelers nor texture designers. Those that can't sprite yet create other resources have no place here. You can't have one leg on a dock (sprite resource) and another on a boat (vg resource). The boat is going somewhere, and the dock is just holding you back. Soon you'll just fall in the water.

Also "spriters" resource is now just dumb. You have "models", "sounds" and "textures". It should seriously be "sprites" by now.
Anyways, sorry for rambling~
The main problem is people think the Request is a magical lamp: wish and ta-dah! It's granted! Then they asked for absurd things and when we bash them for being such dimwits they just go and get angry. When we notice, the entire place is becoming like a Spamhaul 2, or even better, a spamBAWWWWWWW (sorry, bad joke)
Charging for custom? Sure! You deserve to be payed for your work. That's why I suggestioned to have two sessions: one for payed gigs (bigger sheets) and one for free and rips (something like up to 8 sprites or so)
