Edit: Imo, the rep system should be changed so that when somebody gets into the negative zone of reps, it doesn't show in every post, which often leads to baseless-cluster-negatives and new people trying to fit in by passing out negatives. instead it should just stay at zero, imo that would drastically take away the abuse, this would allow people who are using the rep system the way it should be used with out having to deal with hoards of negative users.
Or you could adjust it to being available just once per week, forcing the users to think very carefully about when and how using the reputation system
Setting such an harsh timelimit should be enough to finish, or at least limit the abuse of the current system, I guess.
Since myBB boards only allow each user to rep other users just once per user, why not just take away rep privs from those found to abuse them. Or automatically ban them for a week if privs can't be revoked. For repeat offenders, double their bans for each abuse of the rep system.
It will also help if rep system rules get posted over in the Rules board that spells out what you can or can't do with the system. Nobody has an excuse to ignore the Rules board.
