i think part of the reason is that nobody's heart is really in this project. i mean, negative zero and ton have put in lots of work and stuff, but most of the spriters who are at the level that they can make good sheets at an effective speed are off working on their own stuff (myself included). if you can find someone who can work well, has motivation to finish this, and has adequate skill to get shit done, that would give this project a huge boost.

You guys are much better than I am. If I was up to snuff I'd do much more, but that's why I tried to take more of a leadership role in the beginning. I worked on Porky for a while, but it just got too hard doing new angles, so I'm taking a break.
I'm not sure what I can do to motivate.

Well, he's got Last Legacy to tide him and his brother over for at least another year or two, so I wouldn't worry too much about overworking him. He's started quite a few projects way back when and never finished them.

To be brutally honest, I don't see this ever succeeding. You got to at the very least simplify the art style and animations. Iceman's NES SSB was farther along graphically, and it still looked amazing.

I take it nobody even read this?

wait a sec, lemme get the shovel an' boots. i understand he might a good programmer (and I mean him no disrespect in this post), but "one of the greatest smash programmers of our time"? I was in a Flash class in Norway and made a decent platformer in the first 2 sessions, if you're gonna compare Flash developers to Wii developers in Flash's favor let me go make a shoddy Super Mari Galaxy 2 fangame for you to jizz all over (i'm only kidding, i'd rather use HTML5 (the plugin-less replacement to Flash ))
Runouw's the best flash programmer I've ever come across on the internet. Now, perhaps I'm not searching in the right places, but I tend to play flash games a shit load when I'm bored, so that has to be saying something. Tongue

Anyway, I think re-doing the project again is a pretty horrifying idea. Yeah, horrifying, I find the thought disturbing. How many times have you lads done that in the past? Talk about motivation, starting from scratch is essentially the most unmotivated thing you can do. O.o

I wasn't saying he wasn't.

My argument was aimed at "one of the greatest smash programmers of our time"
anyways this is a big derailment, there needs to be more organization in a project that's to be this "grand"
That was a typo, i meant flash.
How long has this project been happening? I think I joined Pixeltendo around 2006 or 2007 and the project was already on like version 2.5 or something (the current one being like version 5 I think). I don't think we can revise the style AGAIN, seeing as how the current style is like the 3rd one since TSRC was made, and there was at least one other style on way old Pixeltendo. Every time we start to get things done, the style is too complicated and we start over with a simpler one, rendering the old sprites pointless. The last thing that this project needs is a style overhaul again.
We're not changing the style again.

The thing you guys need to realize is that this is a spriting project first, and a fan-game later. Everybody is focusing too much on the game and not enough on the sprites.
True if we can't make a game atleast we can make some awesome sheets for the site.
The only thing I've seen the current custom sprites on the TSR site used for are

a) Gamemaker fan games

and

b) Bad sprite comics
Super Mario 63 was made using all Spriters Resource sprites.

(And some original graphics)
Yeah, forget the game. Let's open all the character sprite topics again and finish them. AFTER we are done, then we could think about making a game if we wanted too. That way we could put all the characters in, and worry about items and stages while the engine for the game is getting finished.
If you open all of the topics none of them will finish. If you're hellbent on using this style then it'd be best to do the sheets one at a time.
What if certain people were assigned certain characters to sprite? I mean, it isn't much, but it will motivate people more on this project.
Or if we only did one character at a time? That proved to be very effective on Gooey
If someone wants to do a whole character, that's fine, but I hate the idea of assigning people to do a character.
