If we use Joe, we'll be dropping Megaman, and there's no way we can do that. As much as I like the character and LOVE your sprites, I just don't think it's a good idea. :/

Old; Mario, Link, Pikachu, ? (Not Kirby; too much with hats and stuff)
New; Sukapon, Gooey, Porky?, ?
Well, Kirby could still have his 'suck-up' B Move but not necessarily have the caps, at least at first...I'd say for now make it more like Yoshi's Swallow (Minus the Egg, obviously), and maybe possibly gain the Ability (Otherwise, it would be more or less the same move as Yoshi's)...I'd also maybe suggest Olimar...for some reason, he seems like he could be somewhat easier to make...

As for the Final Newcomer, I'd say keep them Simple, like Starfy, or maybe Megaman (Depending on how complex the movesets you guys came up with for them are)...Porky may be a little too complex for now
That's even too big. Keep it REEAALLY simple for now. No items or ATs or anything just yet. Just four old characters based off of the top Nintendo franchises.

Mario
Link
Samus (no Zero Suit yet)
Pikachu

Two new ones that are really simple to make.

Starfy
Sukapon

And one simple stage.

Final Destination
TSR, as a community and not a website, is incapable of finishing a community project as a community. Sorry, but it's true. Everybody here comes up with wonderful ideas, but few people will actually attempt to execute those ideas.

One person always ends up doing 90% of the work. If this is supposed to work out as a community project, the community has to work together to complete it, which is very unlikely. Look at TSRodius-- everybody that wanted to be in made a character, but Gors (and TomGuycott) is doing pretty much everything else except programming. And I can imagine that with Gors doing everything, he will eventually get tired of it and the project will die. Again. Nobody wants to start up a community project and then end up being the only one doing anything. Nobody. Otherwise they'd just start their own project and tell everybody else to screw off.

Everybody in this project is caught up with doing everybody at once, when it's been said for about a year that focus should only be on one or two characters at a time. Like right now, in this very topic.

Then, people will continue to not work on those one or two characters and instead talk about miscellaneous additions. Which are nice and all, but this won't go anywhere with just talking.

I spent a good few months indirectly directing this project, but I stopped chipping in once I noticed nobody was actually going to put in the effort necessary. And of course, jobs coming in, which makes me not really want to direct for a fangame/sprite project.

You guys need two people that want to see this project succeed, and take the steps to make it succeed so tSR can finally say "hey look, we finished something." Don't be afraid that you're gonna offend somebody by telling them what to do, or by telling them "don't do that, stop getting distracted with other miscellaneous bullcrap" or whatever. Because chances are, you're not. And if you are, then said person doesn't need to be working on the project.

If you want to see progress in this project, you need to make progress yourself, or start kicking some asses into shape. Asses can't kick themselves. When someone says to do something, do it. That's how progress is made, dudes.
Also, don't change the roster, don't change the items, don't change the ATs, don't change the stages, do not change a THING. Because that means you're gonna have to discuss for a month about what to keep and what to get rid of. Just go back to doing what yall were supposed to do-- work on the simple characters first.

This project doesn't have a deadline. Removing shit from a project with no deadline is pointless.

Damn, haven't been here for days! Feels like everything happened pretty quick too. Also I haven't been really giving it my all as well! (Concerned with other things that I don't need to mess with anymore) Just agreeing with everyone else just let's start on making a demo for now! When everything is set and done, we can work on others a step ahead. Maybe we can all work on one character at a time. (I did mean everyone who wants to help with this.) It would make production faster and easier, and also we'd be able to at least get something up for the demo maybe evry once or so. I agree that We should just use 4 veterans and 4 newcomers, it seems like much easier work. Kirby himself may have to wait, due the fact he has so many abilities to absorb and such it would take a while for the hats to be done and all. Although we could just let him have his attacks for right now, and he doesn't have to have all the hats and such. Though if we could all start on one character at a time, we might be able to see a little bit more progression as we move along.
Ok.
Vets- Mario, Pikachu, Link, Samus
New- Sukapon, Gooey, Porky, Little Mac

Good?

This way we have a rep of several different franchises and the newbies with he most work done get the ok--for now. Sound fair?
^Agreed, right now Gooey seems like the easiest one to do. Seeing as his sheet is already done, from the last smash bros project. Just give me a little more time, and I'll try and see what I can help on this weekend. I won't be that free on weekdays due to schedule changes and being able to pay for books. I might start on helping with Mario pretty soon.
I think if it were only going to start off as 8 characters, it should be from the original SSB N64 version.

This because if something happens to the project and it doesn't get completed, at least TSR will have the sprite sheets of the original 8, instead of 4 of those and another 4 that aren't already part of the set.

If you get what I mean.
Hey guys! Easy way to "force" people to focus on what needs to be done: please lock all topics regarding things that people agree are low-priority; also, put some sort of notice or something telling people that the topic is closed, but may open again later if we get to them?
I thought of that, Sploder. We'll see.

Oddish, if we just release a game with the original 8 fighters, then what distinguishes us from every other fan game out there? We need to show what we're bringing to the table, hence the newcomers.

You do make a good point there, but the way I see it, the original 8 would be the best if the goal was to post in TSR SSB characters in the same style.

Though, if the main goal is to create a unique smash game, then yeah, for sure, I'm all for your character list. =]
Howe come noe one realizes that the original roster had 12 characters and not 8.

you gotta count unlockables too!

Ness should be in that list IMO
He is the one with the most completed animations(5)
He even has more progress than Sukapon
(Sukapon has 7 or more, so far.)*shot*
