It could be just a roster of the new characters?
I doubt they'd be removing the main heroes and villains of the Final Fantasy games. That's just silly.
Especially since all the characters in the pic OSM posted are heroes. None of them (well, I can't really tell the FF3 or FF11 characters, but outside of them) are villains. They are all party members from previous games. Except Seifer. He's kind of a dick.
The most surprising character to not see is Tifa Lockheart. Would've swore she'd be on the roster if a sequel happened. Still, Cid is a badass, and way more interesting than Tifa. Same with Nanaki. Another really surprising addition is Quina. Seriously, tell me two months from now that Quina was going to be in Dissidia, and I would've laughed you out of town.
BUT THEN AGAIN, this list doesn't necessarily mean playable. Just characters that are in the game. While it'd be nice to see a huge roster like this, we ARE talking about the PSP here. Even it has limits.
also Ton, the top character on the FF1 side is the BlackBelt/Monk.

it seemed incredibly fake to me. mainly cuz
the ff1 characters, GUY???, any ff3 character being absolute crap, child rydia over adult, not gilgamesh, 3 ff6 characters proves its what a fan is begging for, cid and red would both be dropped in favour of tifa, vincent or zack for sure, quina lol, ff11 char and a generic female clavat??, some kinda dumb moogle and NO LIGHTNING DESPITE ALREADY BEING CONFIRMED.
You forgot the part of FFT getting proper recognition in any form. Like honestly, Young Ramza? gtfo. Agrias and NOT Delita? Pfft.
