So uh, I'm not actually sure what you're whinging about here. That the peripherals are expensive? Not really - with the exception of the new Pro Instruments for Rock Band 3 (a series with fewer sequels anyway); the periphs are pretty cheap these days. Even the DJ Hero controller. I got DJH1&2 bundled with the controller for £60 the other day.

Are you bemoaning that your friends don't want to start up a band with you? Way to sound embittered.

Are you lamenting that a popular games series has a lot of sequels? Well that's just silly.

That's a pretty dumb sentiment.
HEY GUYS STOP PLAYING GRAN TURISMO BECOME A REAL RACING DRIVER

The concept for Guitar Hero is sound. Hell, Konami did it first with Guitar Freaks. Activision made a few too many pointless sequels; but that doesn't null the attraction of the core game mechanic. Sound to me you're just raggin' on games you don't like. How dare other people enjoy games you don't. >>>>=c

So if you don't want to save your cash on the real deal and make it worth your time to learn songs not on a disc or DLC, then it's okay to buy a bunch of sequels and other similar games that are practically the same.

Okay, makes total sense. After all, not like you and your friends can get real guitars or drums and actually make it worth your time playing something that isn't a cheap piece of plastic
=/.
have you ever considered that people plays this game to "pretend" they're using a guitar, and NOT to learn to play one.

because even we're aware there are idiots who claim they do learn guitar by playing guitar hero, most of the people just play for the heck of the fun this game delivers when played together with friends.

I'd just like to say, although this might just be me, playing the guitar is really hard to learn. It also doesn't help that I'm left handed and that means I have to practically custom order everything due to guitar stores being 99.99% right handed guitars. Do you know how expensive that is? It can run up to $500 dollars more for me.
They used to have this deal for Rockband 1, rockband 2, a guitar, a drumset, and a mic all for 79$. That's less than the latest Call of Duty and a new controller.
Hey guys.

Rhythm games are just for fun. I love to play Rock Band when I have all my school work done and there's nothing else on my schedule. It's just one of those games that never got old for me, perhaps due to my genuine love of music. Naturally, when I see someone scold the series because it supposedly distracts us from playing a "real" instrument, I can't help but feel some annoyance. I shouldn't have to be told how to live my life; I won't tell you how to live yours. Ultimately, the main reason I don't bother to learn a real instrument is I don't want to. Learning a real instrument takes a lot of practice and determination, and when I'm looking for a way to escape the stress of school and work, that doesn't sound the least bit appealing.

As for the "death" of Guitar Hero, really the only way that this can negatively affect me is, given that Rock Band just lost its biggest competitor, they might choose to take it easy on the innovating and supplying an enormous amount of content.
I might as well add that my brother in law whom has been able to play the guitar for many years now, can play guitar hero and rock band on expert while having the controller behind his back.

To be honest he finds both playing the game and the actual instrument to be fun so he does both.

True, but my problem is with pretending is that over time it gets boring as hell.

Sure, it's fun at first. but when you happen to do it every time you go over a friends house it just goes downhill.

Yes, because clearly I want to start a band

I'm not saying that it distracts anyone, nor am I forcing anyone. but my point is at least give the real thing a go as a suggeustion. It won't hurt to try, and it's not like it will kill you.

I can understand where someone wouldn't want to try it out, I'm fine with that. But whenever I see someone who believes they can get everything out of something like Rockband alone, then that's just plain funny. Sure, games like Guitar Hero and Rockband easily expand the library of bands you like (which, is actually the only thing I like about the two games). And you can do it to relieve stress. But otherwise, you won't get much out of the games alone.

And a real instrument won't be to stressful as long as you try to have fun with it. Just wanting to point that out.
Learning guitar is stressful as hell. The first time I tuned my guitar, I snapped the cord and it whacked me in the face. Also learning to play songs is hard as hell as well. Unless you can afford guitar lessons, its pretty stressful. Again, this might just be me.
Yes but a real instrument is also much more expensive then a silly game, particularly if you are left handed and wish to play the guitar or bass.

You have opened my eyes to the way.

I will now sell my copies of Tekken 6, Blazblue, The King of Fighters XII, and I will avoid buying Marvel vs Capcom 3. Instead, I will go out into the real world and take lessons on karate, taekwondo, judo, and chinese martial arts.

Dude, come on. Get real. People play games for the sake of playing games, not to learn how to perform video game actions in real life. You're barking at this moon at this point. If you don't like Guitar Hero or Rock Band, that's cool-- everybody has opinions. But you're arguing about nothing.

hi when I play guitar hero it has nothing to do with the guitar at all it's because I like pressing buttons and having the computer tell me how well I did because that's what videogames are

and I have no desire at all to use guitar hero as a substitute guitar lesson

and I play two instruments irl

but they have nothing to do with me pressing buttons on a controller

and people think of it as a fun game to play together and idk anyone who thinks of it as yayguitarplaying
hey guys stop playing super mario bros and start taking some shrooms

Have you not ever considered that games were made for the precise purpose of doing thing you can't do in real life?

"Fuck you guys, I am gonna learn how to do the Rom infinite in real life, then i will learn the 5 fierce combo. Why do it on screen when you can do this in real life."
This very argument can be applied to people who watch television. Be we all know how well that turned out. *cough*

The people who truly want to learn the guitar will do it. What do you think that future rockers will honestly be playing guitar hero instead of getting some lessons? Why would someone want to learn an instrument that won't benefit them in any way whatsoever?

Years of practice with guitar to play with friends even though that close to everyone who plays guitar hero does not have being a rock star on their list of priorities> 30 min of fun with friends pretending?
