@ Chris: he made the left sprite by tracing the official art, and made the right sprite as n alternate color scheme.

You won't improve much if you don't work to fit others' critiques, because you're inherently inclined to like your own work no matter what. Pardon my rant, but there's no reason to make art only you appreciate, unless it's for ""fun"" like you said, and in that case there's no point in showing it off on a public message board.
Tracing's fine and all but I'd say it's indisputable that original pieces are exponentially better in -every- possible aspect of both appeal and self artistic improvement.
Well anyway, it looks pretty nice. I'd just like to see you try some original pieces.
Tracing over an existing image via pixels. Whether or not the colors and whatnot are similar or different is the creator's decision.
All I'm asking is if there's anything in the lineart that's "wonky," anything bothersome in the shading...etcetera.
Oh hell. I dunno why I posted it up besides just wanting to. =\ Must I have a justified reason for posting up a pixel over?
X Gamer: Ah, that is true. I'm not entirely disconsidering his opinion, like I also said in the same post: I can respect it. Thus, I can consider that pixel overs don't "take as much skill."
I don't just pixel over things, despite it seeming that way due to me just posting that.
I am willing to improve, despite me currently being a little...indifferent, perhaps. Maybe even a little stubborn.
There still is a point. Art is about expression. It's about what you want to do, not what other people wish for you to do.
And yes, it's also about improvement. Which is what I'm willing to do, but I also don't wish to let a few individuals' arguments change what I wish to make, but I am willing to hear them out despite that. And don't get me wrong. You point out flaws in the piece itself, I will more than likely take a look.
But...I do not wish to argue anymore. I really, really just am not in the best mood...due to outside reasons, though. Dun' worry, though, it has nothing to do with this. I'm just a little bit stressed about keeping my grades up, and just everything in general.
But...I told you all that I do have original pixel art, so enough talk, more proof for you. It's not fair to you guys if I continue to tell you this without some clear backup.
I apologize for the massive art dump.
Give feedback as you wish. I prefer to stick to not digressing too far, but nonetheless...there's nothing I can do to stop you if you do.
i was just asking what a pixel over was, not why you put the pixel over in your thread. and you didn't link to the original art, which confused me ( i thought one of the sprites was the original art). some of the lines could do with some selective outlining.
as for your dump... i don't have much time but here are two things you could work on: one would be to tweak your outlines, maybe use sel-out, and two would be to avoid banding in some cases (like a 1px shade next to a 1px shade next to a 1px shade etc).
keep spriting!
can we actually move on and see something thats not traced-pixeled over whatever for the sake of? thanks.

Look in his spoiler and you'll see it.
Not bad but you seem to Band, or Pillowshade, kinda a lot.
sorry i dont see where does he pillowshades or any sings of banding.
The pokemon thats under cubone and a little bit on cubone too.
I suppose thats it really.
that's a bit older than the others, but yes, perhaps it does appear as if I'm pillowing sometimes. I get that problem especially with more Pokemon-esqued sprites for some odd reason because by habit, I add a bit more detail than necessary. I've been trying to break that habit in which I've been "overdoing" things, but I don't think it's been working too well. I'm not sure though.
Perhaps that's why I "traced" that Oshawott. I suppose I was trying to get more used to shading a little bit more simply than usual and using more selective outlining rather than...whatever the hell it is that I've been using.
Also, I've had this really odd habit lately where I seem to do something along the lines of "reverse sel'outlining" or something. The riceball avatar is a decent example of that--at where the main outline is / would be, I've made it so that...well, I don't know how to explain it. I'll magnify it, though, so you can see.
THAT pattern, there in the red and orange? See, I have no idea where the hell that habit came from.
And I'm sorry if I had a bit of an episode earlier. I have not been feeling like myself lately. At all. I may have my period to blame, but I really just don't know anymore.
Hopefully you guys can understand....

nope, sorry.
probabpy cubone and the other pokemon could use some more definition on their linework as it seems to blend way too much into the shading, but thats all i can see.
Only thing I can really see wrong with any of those is the Pokemon type labels - totally illegible.
as a final feedback, seeing this is a display rather than works in progress
you're doing fine. avoid "overdoing" the shading in some aspects, such as the whole "blending linework into shading" issue present in most of what you've posted, and of course, consider doing more than simply sprites. ic an see some potential into doing more elaborated works of pixel art if you actually have the patience to work on, for example, backgrounds and such(considering your sprites are nice first step)
i dont believe i have welcomed you to tsr, so please feel at home, consider hanging out around more often o/
Hoeloe: Yeah, I did attempt at making the text brighter at one point, but I don't think it worked out very well with how I used the anti-aliasing and whatnot. Thank you, though. I'll take it into consideration if I ever try remaking them. ^^
Fuchikoma: *nods* I will take that all into high consideration; thank you very much for your advice. And thanks for the welcome.
I will admit, though, that I have been here lurking, posting occasionally on and off since...just a little while back ago. XD Nonetheless!
And yes, I definitely will be coming back here be it that I ever need some assistance with my stuff. Thanks!
And no, guys, I haven't been chased off or anything, ololz. I've been really busy lately, so haven't gotten the chance to post.
((Off-subject: No updates or anything of that sort, just wanted to thank you all and whatnot. I suppose I was really being a bit of a prick in my earlier posts, but ah well. Man, that was a really, really bad cycle. Kept getting fevers and headaches during the time. ))
when showing us a trace or edit, be kind to include the original sprite/image first; this way we can give criticisms easily than without them
for now, I really consider fixing Oshawott's shell as others have been said; it's the only thing that bugs me.
