What Programmes do people use to make their animations for sprite projects, where they still have the high quality?

I don't know if people are using .gifs to animate because .gifs have shitty quality.

I'm pretty sure this is the wrong forum, but

I think most people use Adobe Flash. Look up some tutorials on importing sprites into flash, animating, and such, if you're not already familiar with it.

I believe it is Flash, since the results usually end up really smooth and straightforward.

I would use gamemaker to make a gmspr file and then convert it.
