I must have played through Mario 64 so many times over my life, at least 20. Galaxy I played through once, and for a few hours as Luigi but soon lost interest. I don't think Nintendo is very good at making longer, re-playable games anymore. I'm not talking epic quest, as one play through is normally enough, but games that aren't 30 minutes long.
No I was referring to this.
Now try playing that with Luigi's slippery feet. (And by the way, that guy makes it looks easy. It takes a lot of practice to get that good and he took a lot of risks and was lucky a bunch of times in that video.)
That was a great game, getting all the stars (which by the way there's plenty more after the credits roll) and then getting them again with Luigi with the slippery feet and different jump height it's almost a different experience. Of course the whole finding the stars as it was with Mario isn't as hard since you've found them all before. You do get a reward after getting them all, you can play an extra level with both Luigi and Mario which is basically for nostalgia and you get a picture which is sent to your Wii. (Of course it's not that great, but the over-all experience is nice.)
And think about the argument of it being too much like Mario 64, what if it wasn't like Mario 64? Then it wouldn't be in the (3d) platforming genre, or it wouldn't be a Mario game.
As far as I can tell, the Wii and DS are getting a lot of people to play games that never would have played them before. They aren't getting them by being horrible, they're getting them with very intuitive and new things that no one has ever heard of before.
They are surely accomplishing their goal of getting new people to play, without any trouble whatsoever.
Have you seen the Nintendo Channel? I swear it was one of the most intuitive things I've ever seen.
In my opinion, they aren't outselling their competition because of everyone being stupid. They're outselling them with fresh, intuitive, and original ideas.
Bottom line, though: It's far more worth its price than the competition. That's why it really sells well.
I can't even think about buying the other consoles because they're too damn expensive, I'm sorry Microsoft and Sony, but I have to pay the bills and put food on my table. (Even though the prices
are going down.)

And you're surprised that they're getting low tier gamers left right and sideways? Microsoft and Sony pander to high-middle to upper tiers with their games. After all, how many new gamers does it generate?
Exactly, they have a much broader market, as they are born every day. XD

That shovelware you talk about is actually easy-to-learn, easy-to-play game tiers that the others have long since forgotten, albeit a few minor games here and there. So Nintendo gets new gamers, the other consoles look at the sales and drool, and follow suit. Nintendo, meanwhile, moves up the tiers of complexity to guide their new members into the higher tiers and turn them into solid gamers, which is good for the market.
No, I'm not claiming Nintendo's a god or anything, I'm just saying their business model is fantastic for sales. Cheapest console, readily available games and easy to pick up and play, with in-house games of good quality. Can't ask much more for people to get newbies involved. So Nintendo's sales are driven by newbies and fans, and yanno what? That's what keeps them securely in the black.
*applause*
I just want to say, I would play all of the consoles if I had the money, as I don't tend to be a "fan-boy." I enjoy all of the titles on the other consoles just as much as the ones on the Wii. I just think you guys are making the Wii out to be less than it is.
I could also add, that according to Game Informer, Nintendo's show at E3 was less than satisfactory, as they showed off some weird music playing thing which from what I read doesn't look like much of a game.
They announced Animal Crossing which for me, is something I can't wait for, as the original experience on the GCN and the second one on the DS were great (addicting) games.
Now that, said, of course like any other gamer, I would've loved to have seen a new Zelda, Mario or Metroid game (I guess we have to deal with the fact that those are good games they have going for them), so it was a little of a let-down.
Anyways, I hope they make up for that. (GI gave Microsoft a B, Sony a B- and Nintendo a dreadful D.)
There are many games on all of the consoles that excite me and I would love to play, but I can't afford it.
But, if I did have the money I would get all three.
(Said it again)
