Well in that case i apologise for coming off that way. I have just as much respect for Gillian's opinion as i do for my own.
I was just trying to show the reasons i think that way. And that i'm not just being prejudiced for no reason.

blaming someone who is overweight for the oppressive culture that belittles them for making their own body choices (and even those for whom it is not) is pretty much the same as blaming someone who dressed in a manner you find promiscuous for being sexually assaulted
also comparing smoking to being overweight is a terrible analogy because smokers aren't routinely told by strangers, family, and the media that their way of life is ugly and wrong and they deserve to be made fun of and trivialised
(also overweight != unhealthy, hth)

Pfffahahaha are you saying that not using 'problematic insults' that trivialise or otherwise objectify a minority is wrong?
Even if I were to use a problematic insult, I would be out of my god damn mind to actually direct it at someone who it would pertain to. You think there's nothing wrong with calling an overweight person fat to their face? You're an asshole. The whole issue here is that a father with an adopted child is upset because he wasn't happy to expose her to a joke about adoption. How is that at all unreasonable? But OH, OH MAN I'M NOT OFFENDED BY THIS JOKE, SO HE IS TOTALLY WHINING OVER NOTHING. AND SO ARE OVERWEIGHT PEOPLE.
The waves of ignorance you're spouting is overwhelming.

Woppet, don't use words you don't know the meaning of.
How do i not know the meaning of it?
A bigot is someone unable to budge on their opinion.
There's a difference between saying something is unhealthy vs. implying something makes you a terrible person or whatever. Everyone has some degree of unhealthy habits, and while being perfectly healthy is the ideal most people really don't care.
Yeah there are people who say smoking makes you a terrible person, they're in the wrong to do that too.
Smoking and being fat are pretty difference scenarios though, with smoking at the very least you choose to smoke, with being fat usually that's due to eating habits you acquire at a young age where what you eat is usually out of your control. The path to not being fat is often a difficult one and many people get discouraged or give up on it while others actually are actively trying their best to not be fat. It can certainly be a sensitive thing for some people, and unlike putting on a wacky hat it's not like they can just magically make the fat go away because people don't like it.
Likewise, you can get addicted to smoking and it can be difficult to quit, so I'm not going to say smoking is an easy thing to stop either.
Neither really make you a bad person or anything. Anyone who thinks that is just plain wrong. Plenty of perfectly cool fat people and smokers.
and it's great you can wear a hat you like and not care what people think. Not everyone is like that, don't hold people to your emotional standards, people react differently to different things.

I have never once said it's ok to make fun of someone to their face for being fat. I don't think it's ok to make fun of someone to their face for any fucking reason at all. It's never ok.
The irony is that the only person who seems to think it's ok to openly insult someone is you. By calling me an asshole.
Portal 2 is a game aimed at a giant audience and when you're playing it. It doesn't know who you are. It doesn't know your background. It doesn't know what you look like.

It's okay to openly insult people when they deserve it. I don't think anyone was saying otherwise. Being fat or smoking or being adopted or whatever isn't a good reason.

I just want to clear some things up here.
-At no point did i insult anyone fat
-At no point did i set out to offend anyone
-At no point did i claim there is anything wrong with fat people (Excluding the fact it's bad for their health)
All i fucking did, was say that people should lighten up and stop feeling offended about fucking everything.
I have quite a few friends irl that are fat.
if i said to them ''fatty fatty fat fat'' or whatever they said in portal. I would expect them to be offended and be shocked if they weren't.
If we were watching a movie together and the movie made fun of fat people and they were offended and told me to turn the movie off i'd think they were crazy.
A few weeks ago i was sitting in the car with my girlfriend having a ''serious talk''
and she said to me, ''Jake, why are you and your friends always joking about your heart? It's not funny, it could potentially kill you''
And i said
''would you rather me mope around the house feeling sorry for myself? Or to cry every time someone made a joke?''
I realize not everybody takes things the same way but fuck, it's a lot more productive to shrug it off than to take offense.

Taking offense is actually a good thing to do though. When you stick up for something and say "this is bullshit, nothing wrong with being fat" or whatever, it's not a matter of just sticking up for yourself, but everyone else who is like that. Discouraging people from being offensive towards people who have done nothing to deserve offensive comments is a ultimately a good thing. Shrugging it off might benefit you, but it's certainly not helping anyone else.

You do realize this is going to go on forever.
We're arguing about our opinions on how to deal with insults.
And we're never going to see eye to eye so i'm going to go ahead and lock the thread.
I wouldn't of said what i said if i knew it would create a shitstorm this big.
