why don't you just let anyone enter until the prelims end? I mean the contest doesn't really start till then

Yes really. Since there was no cap for the number of contestants anyways and the first round has the very same task for everyone, you could justb let everyone join who submits a final entry in time and anyone who doesn't didn't join and it would be independent from what people said in this thread as that is totally irrelephant.

I agree with Zac and Previous, it makes sense!

From now on, just make deadlines end at midnight UTC or something. Better to remove ambiguity.
