This is stupid.
Stop setting limitations to the game, you make it un-fun.
I get it now, you can't win with items. Items are a part of the game, and being able to say "I can beat you, 3-5 lives, no items, and boring flat stages." is like saying "I hey I can you in rock-paper scissors if you don't pick rock or scissors" and bragging because you always pick scissors and win.
Items are terrible, if you want a fair match. (But then again, Brawl is so unbalanced anyway)

...Zee, I could reverse that and say "I get it now, You can only win with items." The Rock-Paper-Scissors analogy makes no sense either. That's really like saying "I can attack but you can't, you have to stay still."

Items are perfectly fine when you're playing with friends or something, but if you want to tell who's better they interfere.
It's more of a reduction of options taken to an extreme. I can actually play pretty well without items, but it makes for longer battles, less of that hectic randomness that I enjoy, and frankly it just makes things more fun to have items. And no, if you want to know who's better, you have to be able to roll with the punches of sometimes uneven items. Every final smash can be avoided, even if your opponent gets health back, even if you get a golden hammer, any sufficiently skilled person can dodge any hazard. I've caught bob-ombs hurled at me, I've avoided Sonic's, Snake's and the Starfox Crew's final smashes, I've fought against somebody who set the map to only heart pieces for items who must've reset his damage about six times before I killed him. It's not about upsetting balance, it's about rewarding circumstance and rolling with punches. The fact a battle can give randomly to either side means that nobody has a preordained advantage.

Sure if you want a game of skill, it pretty much has to be the tournyfag way : fox only, final destination, no items, one life. It removes all the other variables, and only skill survives. Frankly, unless you play explicitly restrictive rules, there's still no good way of determining skill between different characters, and thus no good way of determining player skill, since they're all wildly different.

On that note, I'm still hammering away with my wifi dongle. It's so much better off as a wifi card, I swear.

last time i checked that's how tourneyfags play.

tourneyfags != normal players.

edit: you wanna play a game that actually gives you bragging rights ? i'll meet you in soul calibur 4 or any king of fighters game. i'll show you how to be skilled at a game that actually, you know, requires skill and isn't a party game

Actually yeah, Soul Calibur 4's quite hard when played with skilled players. I actually have to learn moves, instead of just button mashing like I did in the previous games.

BTW Tyvon do you have the 360 version or the PS3 version?
Items on or I don't play. I can do just fine without them, but I hate how tourneyfags HAVE to have them off or else they start whining.
edit- and also it's less fun without them
edit again- and with them on you can do better combos, etc

i play my friend's PS3 version. lol
I want to play SC4. I have 2, and it's badass. I mained Voldo, but I want to learn Xanghua because I always play as the speedy little girl.

Xiaoyu, King (KoF, not Tekken), Marth...
Gameplay-wise, SC2 is probably the best, but SC4 is a huuuuuuge improvement over 3 and just feels better overall

plus, landing critical finishes is ALWAYS satisfying.

i main all of the bonus characters in 4 instead of using their "base" characters lol
Thread hijack?
Frankly it doesn't matter, this topic went downhill, and rightly so, the OP was arrogant and irritating. This Soul Calibur tangent pleases me.

I particularly enjoyed SC2 myself, haven't tried the new ones yet, but I might have a chance at trying 4 this or next weekend.
I played 4 for the 360. Yoda is fun =3

But, yeah, two is the best.

i could beat your ass wiht or without items, i just prefer items. If you want a longer match make it more stock.

Yeah im going back to ya know...my topic. Anyways stfu about the rules. I have "whined" once, if you havnt realized, im about the only person in this topic who hasnt complained.

ANd no Zee. If you want to know whos better at the game you should most defidently have no items on. *sigh* if you want to proove me wrong PM me, anybody.
I have $20 that says that Zee would win.
