Hello,
First of all allow me to apologize if this is not an adequate place for this question, but it still seemed the best one around.
Anyway, here is the situation: I'm a contributor a the 999 wiki (
http://ninehourspersonsdoors.wikia.com/w...Doors_Wiki), and I found on your website sheets with (most of) the games CG ripped by Shoda (found here:
http://www.spriters-resource.com/ds/9h9p9d/). I proceeded to individually separate (many of) the images and upload them to the wiki.
My question is what is the best/preferred way to give credit (which the ripper asked for)? I tried asking the ripper directly (both through e-mail and private message), but am yet to receive an answer, and I'd rather like to move on with my work at the wiki.
On a separate note, does anyone know what the legal copyright status is for the ripped images? (my guess is that they still fully belong to the copyright holder of the game...)
I'm not sure how to answer your first question but I think I can answer the second. The copyright does in fact remain with the original copyright holder for the game. Our use of them here (and elsewhere in various projects) is a bit of a legal grey area as we technically do not have permission from the copyright holder for their use. However, for the most part, this is willingly overlooked by the copyright holders because their use on this site and in the various projects that stem from it is all not-for-profit. Take-down requests are always complied with but they are not frequently received.
So, to sum up that rather long-winded answer: The copyright of all of the ripped images of the site remains with their company of origin.

Thanks a lot for the answer.
I know my first question is probably weird to answer. Basically the thing is that in the wiki format there is no way to "give credit" I consider particularly good. I could for instance put a note saying I got it from here in every single File Page, but not only is that a lot of work, it also feels pretty useless, since no one reads them anyway.
Personally I can't say I care much about all of this, but another guy on the wiki is making a fuss about farfetched scenarios of the ripper suing for usage of her "derivative content" if we don't give proper credit. It's weird...

I think a lawsuit is a bit far fetched but I do fully agree with giving people who put in the effort to rip these sprites, regardless of whether they hold the actual copyright for the image, credit for their work. I only can't answer it because I'm not exactly familiar with how the wiki is set up. If they are all going on a single page though, I feel like it would probably be enough to throw a line in the references section to the effect of "All sprites ripped by Shoda from The Spriters Resource" which would include a link to either the submitter profile directly or otherwise at least to the home page.

I've no problem giving credit, provided there is a sensible solution to do so. There is not, like you suggest, any centralized page were the pictures she ripped belong. Primarily, images in a wiki are to be used in the content pages, which you want as uncluttered as possible, and are hence not a place where credits belong. That leaves the individual file pages, which are these "back stage" pages no one will usually read (for reference here is one, with credits given:
http://ninehourspersonsdoors.wikia.com/w...airs_1.png ), and I'm not so willing to spend 30 min + individually adding messages to some 150 pages that won't be read anyway (although many of those already have such a message now, since I was editing the file pages for "sort keys" yesterday, so I added a credit message as well).
And for reference, my question about copyright was't just because of "lawsuit scenarios by the ripper", but also because in the File pages you are meant to list the actual legal status in which the images are being used (in this case, "fair use", which is something even messier if you are using works legally considered as derivative, I think).
