Wow, for your first sprite, thats pretty good. DEFINITELY better than my first sprite. Mine didnt have shadowing. So low resolution.

why dont you explain us the process you used to sprite this? that way we can go point by point analyzing what you do and how you can improve it.
as far as the sprite goes, it seems you do have been using some sprites as a reference, but you dont seem to understand what you're exactly doing it.

Also you're pillowshading, that is a thing that you shouldn't do.

I started drawing my sprite:
First I marked the outline and then I colored the primary colors.
Then I added the shadows and other effects.
I don't used pillowshading,the light comes from above and a little bit from the right.

he isnt pillowshading, and if he is, please point where he is doing exactly so we can fix it kat.
though the way shapes are shaded right now in your sprite are not as accurate as they should be. right now, the character seems more like a beveled image rather than a 3D object(by 3D i mean something with mass and volume), making it look really flat.
