But really, it seems just like a more efficient way to prevent posts that are just,

The only reason why I think users should have the ability to thank posts in a locked thread is because I feel like if they actually read the thread and why it got locked in the first place they could actually thank a moderator for giving him a specific reason.
same could be said for valid criticisms that could be used for future reference.

If I recall, you used to be able to thank in locked threads in the first version...
