Japan begs to differ...
(12-27-2011, 03:45 AM)Splodiatrist Wrote: [ -> ]@Guycott, regarding your seeming conundrums over Fire Emblem characters, allow me to remind you that Fire Emblem 13 will be out before the next SSB is, meaning we will have more characters to discuss (or, at least, the Japanese will...); I'd personally prefer a magic user in order to get away from YET-ANOTHER-SWORDIE, but that will remain to be seen. Also, regarding FE-related ATs, they could pull something like just having it summon a random generic unit class (and to take the laziness yet another step, they could just use the GBA sprites or something).

I also have to say I myself would not be particularly upset by the appearance of Slime; it'd be great to have such an odd character!

If that's the case then I am PRETTY sure Fire Emblem 13 is getting some kind of rep. I mean, it DOES seem that Fire Emblem has been the main cross-promotion slot since Melee... well, not to say that the WHOLE GAME isn't cross promotion, but with Roy being so dispensable and his decision to be added before his game was even released, it seems kind of obvious.

I reaaally want Ridley to get in because Metroid ONLY has Samus (in two forms at least). And I also agree that F-Zero needs an addition. Samurai Goroh seems like the best since he's already got the AT treatment. I've always felt Earthbound was just a little snubbed too because they have two villains that would be amazing playable characters, but instead we get Ness and Lucas as a Ryu and Ken arrangement.

Another thing I've always wanted to see was the inclusion of one of the Mario RPG characters, like Geno (who would have to be third party), Fawful or even just Paper Mario.
If they were to add a Paper Mario character, would you want them to render them in 3D, or keep them paper flat?
Flat, Game and Watch style.

Actually now that I think about it, wouldn't Paper Mario be a hilarious alternate costume for Game and Watch?
Well, both Mr. Game & Watch and Paper Mario has hammers, so it could work.

I'm bored of the same old "beat enemy, move to next stage, beat enemy" classic single player mode in SSB. Having a real adventure mode that was extensive with the main fighting elements beside the main game was very refreshing and is something I certainly won't forget and would definitely do again. Melee's Adventure Mode was great but there wasn't a whole lot of adventuring from what I remember and even then you still always had to fight the same old characters at the end of the stages. In Subspace there were actually new characters introduced and awesome new enemies (Armight? Greap? The claw hand guy? Come on), huge bosses with new strategies involved besides just spamming Stone ability on them or something, and had an actual storyline. What I'm getting at is, everyone's being a bit unfair about Brawl just because it was a bit different in the fact that it had "too much adventuring" and not enough "beat up everyone and everything 100% of the time because that's what SSB is all about". Brawl did something different for a change and I appreciate that and I say it added a lot to the game. [/myopinionthatnobodycaresabout]

Totally not what I was going at. The whole adventuring principle in SSE was great. It just needs actual game characters. Replace the new bosses with bosses from actual games, like Heavy Lobster on the Halberd instead of Duon. There are tons of enemies to pick from to put in Adventure Mode, so why make new ones? Smash Bros. is the clash of games, and it would be nice that it would be represented in Adventure Mode.
Again, adventuring was great in Brawl and is a big improvement on Melee's Adventure Mode. It's those easy-to-forget obsolete newcomers that ruin the game vs game atmosphere Smash Bros.'s supposed to have.
IF they do another Subspace Emissary (not EXACTLY like it, but similar) I'd like to see Sonic with a bigger role. Oh and an Eggman boss.

As far as characters I'd love to see go ... *deep inhale*

I think the biggest problem with Subspace Emissary was just how damn generic the whole thing was. After that, it would probably be the Kirby level design (the whole Smash series is pretty much Kirby Super Star as a full-on fighting game, and so SSE essentially went full circle and became just Kirby Super Star again).

Randomly, I have to say that I'd love to see Bomberman in, complete with cross-shaped bombs.

You, sir... are my favorite person on TSR right now.
Maybe K. Rool is meant to be a new "Mario" character, since Donkey Kong is an offshoot series of Mario, much like how Wario & Diddy Kong were the new "Mario" characters in Brawl. They SHOULD add a new character with the mushroom logo though, be it Toad, Geno, or Bowser Jr. Any of those would do.
I think the Pokemon series needs a more diverse roster.
Brawl had 5 first gen Pokemon and 1 4th gen Pokemon (if I remember correctly)

I would prefer if there were some 2nd, 3rd, and 5th generation Pokemon thrown in there too. Maybe if they replaced Lucario with Zoroark and made another Pokemon Trainer type character with 3 popular Pokemon from the middle 3 generations

Think this guy got a chance?
Character speculation aside, is anyone else worried about controllers? It seems the Wii-U is totally dropping GCN controller support (as is evident from the newer Wii models dropping it as well), which is my controller of choice for Smash Bros., as it probably is for many others. I'd use the Classic Controller but my problem with it was not being able to set the CC's D-Pad for movement, since the control sticks suck. I don't really see them using the tablet controller at all for Smash Bros. (the tablet itself, anyway, the buttons should work), and, though I know a few people who prefer it, I can't stand using the Wiimote setups for Brawl at all. I don't know, I guess they'll think of something, but the lack of GCN support still worries me.

If its for 3DS that's an entirely different discussion, like, an "I need to get a 3DS" kind of discussion.
Nah I don't think controllers will be an issue with the wii-u granted you use the classic controller.

Most likely Pokéball, using V-Generate to destroy the opposition.
Pokémon roster will most likely be:
Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Red and Zoroark. Hopefully Gold (or Lyra) with Chikorita, Quilava and Feraligatr, Mewtwo and, for Mewtwo vs Lucario grudge matches, Lucario, will join the roster aswell.

If there is going to be a playable second rep for F-Zero, I think it should be Black Shadow, and Fake Kraid (small Kraid from Metroid and Super Metroid) seems like a good candidate for me to represent Metroid. I mean, c'mon! Belly missiles! Who doesn't want that?
