No problem, I try to be as helpful as I can be.

Oh... dear... Those programs you mentioned? I finally got around to working with them, but... I can't make heads or tails of this stuff. The only thing I really got working decently was Tinke, but even then, it apparently only recognizes 10% of the files or something... I've seen screenshots of it looking at fonts, so this really excites me, but... I just can't seem to figure it out... Go figure, too - it's the only one with no readme.

Well, there will be times when you just won't be able to find anything that will decompress the files, unfortunately...
If nothing works at all, then I guess the last resort is the old fashioned screenshot technique I'm sorry to say.
Have you PMed redblueyellow about your problems yet? He'd be happy to assist you however he can.

Is this what you mean by font? I did a real quick in-game rip of the letters that appear in the beginning of the game.

Could you tell me what revision of Tinke you are using? The latest as of this moment is rev 135. You can download it here. (I compiled this myself from the site where the code is).
You can also try contacting pleonex (creator of Tinke) as he's always open to suggestions but you need to play the waiting game...

Hello everybody, I'm new
I'd like to rip sprites from the game JoJo Bizarre adventures (preferably the PS1 edition), and I'd like to use an automated program cause it's too annoying to save screenshots for every frame and then clean them...
Something that I can feed the cd content to and get results...
I hope somebody can help :-)
I really can't understand why JoJo sprite rips are so hard to find on the net O_O

Try this.

Psicture might also help, but I was never able to get something out of a virtual rom (even mounting with DaemonTools didn't help). The only thing rippable were physical CD's, and not all of them display stuff. Grandia only shows Battle Backgrounds, Wild Arms shows nothing, Granstream Saga and Jade Cocoon show everything and so on.
But maybe you're able to get something out of virtual roms and I made some mistakes with mounting and stuff. No promises, though.
Friedslick6 also mentioned another method with "extracting all sprites with correct palettes"
http://www.spriters-resource.com/communi...#pid352377
never used it and can't remember why, but you should give it a shot.
More tools, maybe helpful, maybe not:

Personally, I've only used PSX-VRAM and sometimes PSicture (also PSound one time for the Thrill Kill sound effects).
Quote:Protip: Move horizontally 16 pixel and vertically 1.
This is how you find the palettes, most games (if not all) use this grid. The horizontal moving should be always begin with coordinate 0, then comes 16, 32, 48, and so on. Vertical moving starts also at these spots.

Sorry for necropost, but when I was reading this Barubary's thread I've found a decompressor that might be useful to you:
DSDecmp.
The project page says you can decompress files from Golden Sun: Dark Dawn using version 3b. I haven't tried it yet but maybe it can help you a little
