EHEH, BETTER EXAMPLE OF HIS GAME TBH.
To anyone who doesn't know, I'm making a joke game at the moment (mostly a throwback to the Waligie series and old messy Clickteam games in general), and it's starring this crazy dude.
I feel like he seems more sleepy than drunk, but otherwise I love it!
Gotta love how the balloons closer to us are smaller.
Anyways, CBL, you should probably exaggerate the proportions on the "My Toe!!" animations to help readability.
something like this?
also, more drunken mawio
Maybe a little bit larger, with the bottom of the shoe being brighter so it's more obvious.
Like this terrible example I made:
?
It still looks like he has no shoe on though...
darker?
flashing??
maybe put his flashing foot a red color?
Definitely the flashing variation.
Flashing's more interesting.
what's this? multiple expressions???
there will be more, and they will be used in story cutscenes, like in--you guessed it--streets of rage 3.
next thing with these is either: A. more expressions, or B. stevo portrait.

Maybe they can be used in the character selection screen? you select the character portrait you want to fight with. And his expression changes.
Also when you're finished with your main story line, how about making a PvP like option? Where a character can fight another. Like in Super Smash Bros Brawl?
-just a suggestion-
i think you're a bit confused... this isn't a fighting game. this is a beat 'em up.
fighting game:
beat 'em up:
i might include a battle mode, like the ones in streets of rage 2 & 3 (demonstrated here in streets of rage remake):
GUYS WATCH OUT, I MADE A REALLY DRASTIC CHANGE TO EXISTING SPRITES
gatsby is green now
hooray
this is also consistent in the portraits, which means i had to mix the red and brown shades in order to make room for the two shades of green.
also in the world of portraits...
STEVO!!
now that i've got stevo's portrait(s) done, i've updated the character select mockup, complete with hastily-made arrow on the right to imply that there's something more there, because there's always something more.
