Your animations are great! Your colors look washed out and tiring to look at, though.
saturated colors killed my parents.
not really. i've just always preferred more washed-out or faded colors in my work, and that's kind of something i'm not going to budge on. sorry.
if it's any consolation, that they'll be easier to look at in front of whatever backgrounds i make in the future, since those will essentially be tailor-made to fit them.
it's just that the desaturated look suits itself to knowing color composition very well. cave story is a shining example because the areas are all of these neat blends of saturated and de-saturated colors that pop really nicely together.
what do you suggest i do?
the biggest thing i can suggest really is not stick so much to de-saturated colors. have a little bit of saturation there, and also mes around with complimentary colors for the things you want to make pop out real well. your backgrounds and sprites look "alright" together but the backgrounds just kind of blend together into one layer, which is something you really want to avoid with desaturated colors. you even have problems with it on CBL's outfit, individual details don't stand out and he looks completely flat
those aren't my backgrounds. right now, i don't have any backgrounds, but i'll take your advice into consideration once i get to them.
for now, i'll stick with my current colors out of personal preference, but i can modify the palette of the entire sheet at any time, and i probably will have to once i get to making either more characters or backgrounds. thank you very much for the critique!

The minute I saw that, I thought of this
song.
guess where i'm going with this
actually don't. this is crappy's running attack. it's currently mostly finished, i just need to make a landing frame or two.
does it look smooth enough? i tried in-between frames for the spinning, and it looked like he wasn't going much of anywhere. it's likely that i just fucked it up, though.
rotations scare me.
It's a little hard to tell as of now. Maybe you should try to apply it to his running frames?
i tried! it doesn't look all that great since it isn't fully in motion, but i think it gets the idea across.
points to whoever can tell me what beat 'em up character's move this is a blatant homage to!
Maybe with motion blur à la sonic spin?
hm, do you mean making the frames more rounded in general? or adding an in-between light blue and dark blue circle frame? because i love both ideas, though i don't have time to do either at the moment. i'll get back to this later, and maybe try both out.
Well, whatever works best. I never worked on such things :I
EDIT: updated with slightly better curled pose
