Another thing is that the Sony's "Iconic characters" don't go together at all. You've got Sly, the rapper dog thing, the guy from Killzone?, Fat Princess?
With Nintendo, characters at least feel like they go together naturally, where as they don't seem to here.
i don't know man, i think it could work.
if nintendo was handling it.
the thing is, i think snake fit in just fine in brawl. he was adapted into the game's style both visually and gameplay-wise quite well, and i think that came down to nintendo knowing what they were doing.
here, i'm not so sure sony can handle mixing in all these gruff macho guys (kratos, snake) with the silly/cartoony characters (sly, parappa). we'll just have to see.
The problem is: They don't have a style. This is the 3D equivalent of Super Smash Flash. They're just taking components and slamming them together.

Crash Bandicoot for Battle Royale!
I think they're striving for exclusives? It would be good, but Crash has been on other consoles several times, I don't think they would call him a "Playstation All-Star" anymore, even if he had a huge part on the console's popularity (same with Snake. But I sure hope I'm wrong on this).
Also, there should be at least something with ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and/or Ape Escape, I can't believe Sony would overlook the few IPs it has under it's name.

It seems like more of a case of "Who is our audience for this game?" They don't know. The Nintendo crowd and the Sony crowd are pretty different. So they're trying to use their more mature properties in their Nintendo-style game.
On top of that, they don't seem to understand style or substance. Or what makes a character worthy of being in a game like this. For example, Parappa looks terrible in 3-D. They should have just kept him in his 2-D form as a throwback/nod to the fans. Fat Princess hasn't been around long enough to be a "Classic Sony Character" so we're at the first five characters and they're already scavenging for characters.
But hey, maybe I'm wrong.
And if there's no Crash or Spyro, this is wasted completely.
Crash and Tekken are the two (formerly exclusive) PS game that defined my whole PS experience, especially in my childhood.
I don't see Tekken getting any reps in there, but if Crash is left out aswell, this game means nothing to me, basically. Not that it matters much, since the Crash Bandicoot series lost its magic when it was no longer in Naughty Dog's hands.
I'm pretty sure that Etna won't be involved (nor would Sora; Square's NOTORIOUS for that) as they aren't as Playstation Exclusives as it seems. And both are popular in this department, but for a Smash Bros clone (ripoff is a loose term; code-for-code perfect match)
1. Disgaea DS (Nintendo Handheld). This and that cellphone game. The netherworld of Disgaea used to be playstation exclusive, but it's appearance on the DS practically lost it's right to be called PS Exclusive.
2. Kingdom Hearts is a crossover game. Fat Chance trying to get that license from both companies (disney and square, respectively).
3. It would practically be a battle of the unknowns at this point; Jak, Sly, Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, Crash are all PS1-era exclusives, now some are not, and these guys (and a few others) are practically the only ones I know about I could actually name on the top of my head when it comes to this. I don't even know if they are gonna add the Battlefeild soldier too, and half of these heroes don't really have names.
Most of the playstation experince I'm going through now is Disgaea 2, actually. Mega Man made up most of my PS1 experince (I was a Sega Kid, mostly, so I played those games more often on the dreamcast. I had a PS1, but not many games, and those games were mostly IPs I already knew about).

Why would Battlefield be involved at all? Battlefield is Dice and EA, not Sony (and not PS exclusive at all)... Same thing with Disgaea and Kingdom Hearts, I'm having a really hard time understanding the logic behind your post...

No they aren't? Woah, Jak, Sly and Ratchet & Clank aren't even on the PS1 to begin with! They all started on the PS2. And both Crash and Spyro had some PS2 games as well. Also, I wouldn't call them unknown! The current roster of the game has everything BUT unknown characters, even Parappa is really popular!

It should be obvious why she's in it...can you name a classic Sony character that's female?

what's the logic in this post
help
If this game is bad but i won't say it is until i play it myself it looks alright in my opinion, that the only thing to do is rip the characters and stages
... Fuck me and my occasional nonsensical posts.
I was just speculating, and I ended up thinking too hard.. and too far back. Aha wow I fail. What I meant was that Sony doesn't HAVE that many origional IPs enough for a game like this, it's been mostly third party.
This seems like one of those games where I would rather wait for the price to go down.
Not going to lie however, I am somewhat impressed with how they implemented the martial arts thing into Pa-Rappa, and to be honest, it makes sense.
Parappa would look find in 3D if they actually had a style going on with this game.
But they don't.
I had to do it.
