This is looking to be quite impressive. Besides perhaps the control scheme (I'm a fan of Shift/Ctrl over Z/X and the like), there's very little to dislike.

Well, I am planning to have customizable controls soon, so don't worry too much about that!
Also took your suggestion, Previous, and here's a new screenshot with the anti-aliasing changed:
It does look much better.

Now let me tell you a story, kids
Once upon a time there was a Mario
It's-a me! Malleo!
He found himself in a nice green field.
Wow! This field sure is green and not three tiles tall like in Kirby's other games!
He thought this field was very nice though found it strange that he couldn't progress off the sides of the screen even though there weren't walls there. He did find, however, he could progress off the bottom of the screen and that there was death there.
Oh my! Didn't see that one coming!
He decided to return to the green field, though the forces of nature made sure he wanted to return first.
Yup! That was a nice green field!
So Mario returned to the field and found something else there.
What a weird door! It's just floating in space!
As Mario passed by the door, it became solid and began to float up and down in place!
Whoa! What's up with this door?
And then Mario found himself at the bottom of a pit again, staggering backwards from the surprise, only to discover that the door he had activated was a Checkpoint.
My my! Now that's sure handy!
He returned to the field via the Checkpoint posthaste!
Woohoo!
This is wonderful! Now I don't always have to start at the beginning of this lovely field!
And that's how Mario discovered the Checkpoint and became happier.

The page turned, and Mario grew happier.

And then Mario fell
He jumped in a Barrel Cannon with a red arrow on it and got fired way way way high in the sky and then fell down
And I'm going to break character here because as soon as I finished this next part I literally went "Oh my God yes"
Not very humble, I know, but I was kind of taken aback
SPIN PILEDRIVE THOSE BRICK BLOCKS INTO SUBMISSION, HYAAAAARGH

Brand new revolutionary addition to the Mario series: anti-aliasing
WITH THE ANTI-ALIASING SUIT
ANTI-ALIAS YOUR ENEMIES INTO SUBMISSION
In other news here's Fabulous Rainbow Dash Skittles Invincible Mario.
EDIT: And also, better take pains to make sure you have plenty of air underwater!
'Cause if you don't...
Welp, he's sure drowned.
He'll also stay there on the continue screen. Just to make sure you feel terrible.
Don't you feel just awful?

Boy, the way you write and the screenshots alone make me desperately want to play this. Kudos.

I already like how the game sounds. Even better than the GBA series.

Got a better Invincibility effect put in.
RAINBOW ROAD IT'S A PLACE WHERE YOU GO
Also added this guy right here:
TURN IT UP -get down-
So hey, it's-a Metal Mario. What can he do? Well, I'll tell you what he can't do:
Doop.
He plays the same underwater as on land - but he does have a special ability. He'll be able to do a Ground Pound to break Brick Blocks underneath him.

Short update - I upgraded the music system to FMOD which is pretty cool 'cause it means better looping with the music stuff now. Woo.
It also means I don't need separate files for "MARIO WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE'S ONLY 100 SECONDS LEFT NOW" music because I can speed it up using FMOD by itself and it's ridiculously easy.
In fact the whole music system was made so ridiculously easy to use now I'm almost kind of wondering why I didn't do it sooner
Also working on Speed Mario sprites since he's honestly the hardest one to sprite. Or at least he requires the most work. Once I'm done with his sprites I'll start more engine work.

OMG! Dude! You are freakin' hilarious and your game looks awesome! I'm a HUGE HUGE HUGE Mario fan. I'm definantly playing this when you're all done. PM me as soon as you finish this game with a link preferably. This is so cool Dude!!!

Can't say the humour's my style, but the game itself looks pretty cool.

Makermatic21: I'll see if I can remember to PM your when I'm done, but don't expect me to. If I had to PM everyone who was interested there'd be a list for two, maybe three forums which would be too much!
Afr0Blu3: The weird humor I have will be mostly in these topics - the game will have a sense of humor like the Mario and Luigi games. Without character dialogue.
IN THE MEANTIME HAVE SOME ART I DREW AND THEN VECTORED FOR MY GAME
LOGO
Yarp
And Mario because I guess he's kind of important I dunno
Work on the game itself is at a standstill until I finish Boost Mario sprites.
