I disagree with the guy who makes the game, and I don't believe that is the way people will treat it. You're again getting pissed off because of what somebody has said, not the product itself.
By the same nature I feel I want to protect anybody in any game, unless they are super human.
can you explain how swapping one damaging and shitty stereotype about women for another damaging and shitty stereotype about women is at all progressive because i've still yet to see you explain your logic
i mean are you honestly saying that replacing 21st century sexism with victorian-era sexism is progress
it's almost as if you haven't actually read anything on how benevolent sexism is still sexism
and it's almost as if you've ignored the posts asking that if you haven't actually done any background reading you should probably stop talking
imagine that!
I'm saying that she is not being thrown as like a sex doll, and is instead being shown as a human being with real emotional situations. Any situation, male of female, would struggle to deal with. From the trailer so far I can pick up that she is struggling in a situation she is not used to. She is still fighting strong with that.
She is portrayed as a human being, not a killing machine, not a sexy hunter. She does not look like she needs a hug and a kiss and that'll make it all better - she needs to fight, and I want to be in that role because she is going to kick some ass.
She doesn't look like she needs to be treated like a precious gem, she looks like she's a hardcore fighter who is going through some serious shit. Just like any other game of the same nature.
The guy who designed the game might think so, I fucking don't. Because that's dumb.
This is my opinion, which I would like to have kept and not ripped from me because I'm not allowed to have my own thoughts on situations that you don't agree with.
"but of course i want to protect her"
"nobody really wants to protect this character"
that's you
that's what you're saying.
i mean if you want to go on pretending that your random inconsistent flailing and ignoring of actual sexist tropes constitutes a valid argument that's your prerogative but i'm perfectly within my rights to point out that your precious opinion is based on privilege and faulty logic
this is the fucking "NO CRITICISM PLS" thinking that i've complained about in the past, btw.
just saying you can handle skirts, even short ones, without unnecessary panty shots
they're video games actual physics don't really need to apply!
i mean if they did then we wouldn't have as ridiculous "boob physics" in video games

What I'm saying is of course you want to protect the character you play. I don't just want to protect her, I want to play as her. Because that is your character - you don't want to die, that isn't the aim of the game.
I don't want to beat her up, I want her to survive. Just like I don't want Mario to die, I don't want anybody to die. Because I play that character.
You're really wrapping my words around to make them sound misleading.
Look, this argument is over, if you want to continue smacking me in the face with your thoughts, feel free to do it elsewhere. We both know where we stand, and your attempts to just bait me to ban you aren't working, so this is a useless argument.

that doesn't make her a good character
you know what wants me to protect that character I'm playing as, male or female?
being a likable character
making them gritty and realistic, covered in dirt and grime, and almost raped and murdered doesn't make want to play or protect them as much as a well written and designed character.
I'm not saying this new Laura is good or bad. But the "Oh she's been through rough shit and now she's empowered" thing is an old ass trope and doesn't make her a "good female character" because of it.

I agree.
I know that doesn't make her a good character, but while playing a game it makes me more attached to the character. I enjoyed Heavy Rain, Uncharted, Fahrenheit, and Suikoden all because the worlds involved were interesting and to my preference. This game has a world with a gritty nature and it looks interesting and fun to play.
The point I'm making is that I think that in a game like this you need to gain attachment to the situation at hand. I like the guys who aren't super macho, that's why I don't like shit like Asura's Wrath.

lol are you honestly saying that trying to save face on the internet is more important than actually listening to women about women's issues.
this isn't even about me he's cheerfully ignoring angie too
feel free to think of me as the world's biggest douchefuck but angie is someone that seems pretty well-liked and people are still refusing to actually accept that maybe, just fucking maybe, a woman has a valid point about sexism and the discussion thereof. hush now, the men are talking.
When did I say this.
I agreed. I understand. I accept.
I have an opinion.
you do realise that this idea that all opinions are right and valid and you can never criticise them ever completely and utterly negates the point of having or expressing an opinion right

thats' not what i'm saying at all, women's issues are an extremely important matter, and i'm pretty much on par with everything you said in this debate, but that's beside the point.
I'm not trying to shut you up, just trying to stop the massive derail of this thread is all
I think we're done with this discussion now, we're circling and I'd like this thread to not be a complete waste of time. I did PM you about it, but I guess you laughed at it, sent it to your buddies and then failed to reply.
edit: beat me to it.
