you should have the head move a little bit, like turning left to right
also, this is less a thing about the sprite, but i /always/ see people doing quote sprites on a pretty small scale, but there's a lot of neat things you could do with that design if you made it bigger

So I tried a bunch of stuff, and the two slightly apart from the others are my favorites, I left the other attempts in case you like them better.
My preference is the top right one.
Edoot: Put the pieces together to see how it works.

His face seems way too apathetic for the pose he's in.
Give him some emotion!
His arm seems way too rounded for the pose he's in.
Give him some elbows!

needs more shadow link
It's cute but the expression is really... uhm, dunno. Stoned?
The shield faces too far towards the camera and not enough towards the possible enemy.
I'd put some more line between hair and face so they blend less?

Shadow Link: Now in Dark Pit flavor! You should look for the original sprite of Shadow Link from Zelda II and his skin in Brawl.
Though, it's funny how mostly everyone gets a black recolor of themselves in Brawl, yet only 3/5ths of the roster are actual characters (that and Pit didin't get a FULL shadow treatment meant they were working on something else too)! Unintentional, I know.

Link's eyes look like they're bored while his mouth is grinning.
LINK2SWAG4U
I'd suggest giving him angry eyebrows. That might help.

Is there a reason the older image and the newer image are exactly the same...?
That hair selout looks wonky. It's kind of distracting.
Curve out that hand, there's no need for that little angle pixel in the bottom left to be there.
The left foot (our perspective) might need to be shifted over to the left just a tad more. Either that, or the belt would need to be shifted to the right. The centers aren't lining up.
The right side of his hat looks like it's hanging too far over. It's going -past- his face. I think it would make more sense if it was over to the left a bit more.
The bottom of his face and the top of the right arm (our perspective) makes a straight horizontal line all the way across. That makes things look odd and flat, try to change that.

I tried a quick edit so I wouldn't have to do my homework
It's still got issues (and I wanted to try changing the arms...) but this is all I can do for now. There's some stuff I tried that you can pretty much disregard, but that's the fun of edits anyhow. The main point I wanted to make was pose stability.
