Are you sure that's not a joke or something?
I mean, I can't read the text but Goemon would definitely pull off that kind of joke. It looked like when Goemon opened that box thing there was some kind of magical spell or something put on Ebisumaru and Goemon's expression clearly shows that that wasn't normal.

That was a thing that was never referenced again in any game, so it's pretty much not-canon in the universe (even the end screen has regular Ebisumaru again). He also has a daughter (even before that whole future Goemon thing). Still, it's interesting, Konami likes to pull this kind of thing, heh.

Did I just read that someone thought Ebisumaru was a woman? Man things go whack when I'm gone.
The only thing people seem to miss about Ebisumaru is that many people think he has blue hair (he has black) when it is actually a cloth tied around his head because that's how thieves in Japan roll.
