Hi there, I'm Blooyash. I've been spriting for awhile. Recently I stopped, so now I want to start again. I'm currently working on Leaf/Blue sprites from Pokemon, and eventually I want to make a full sheet.
The original sprite was made by Caby:
Looks like Eve was a pre-dominated base with hints of Kagura, even then the pokemon-style shading is pretty much the dominating pallete, Thus making them look "out of style". There's some banding in there and a few frames poportionally off, though it's kinda hard to pinpoint where as it's most likely rampant.
For the animation, there's a "noob-bounce" going on.
I was trying to make her in JUS style. Unless your talking about the Pokemon. And that animation, I didn't make it, Caby did. I was just showing that he made the original sprite and I edited it. I'm pretty sure I changed it so it doesn't do the weird bounce, I just need to animate it to make sure. I'm pretty sure Caby made the stance from scratch. I just used Eve for the rest.

There's 2 things wrong brought with this sentence.
You're making JUS anything.
It's a shitty sprite style with a shitty colour palette that emphasizes on poor shading techniques (like lack of hue shifting to make better use of contrast and poor use of pure black). It's an ugly style that has never once looked good.
Seriously, the only reason I can ever see it considered is if someone was actually trying to expand on the game with something remotely close to the game,
and even then, it'd be a waste of time, because the result would be nothing then "well, you finished."
The fact you're going for a different style with Pokemon means you have no care for finding a good style, but rather throwing shit together to finish it. Style clashing isn't justifiable at any time and has no reason to be done other than pure lack of caring and skill.

Regardless of how true "never once looked good" turns out to be, this entire section is idiotic. All it does is make you look like you're passing off an opinion you pulled out of thin air as fact in the most elitest way possible. Any possible value it could have had is lost among the elitist bullshit.
Now... if you wanted to help, you could mention how the hair is blob like and requires a lot more definition and refining, (this is mostly the back of the hair when it shows up), or many of the poses are stiff and don't make much sense for the character (like that idle really doesn't work for this character at all, it should really be more upright (I'm not even sure what trainer WOULD work with that idle) or... actually, other than some minor banding in areas, I don't think there's much wrong that's not wrong with the style to begin with. Good job there Blooyash.
Anyways, Proton, if you REALLY dislike what's wrong with JUS style, you could even just disregard the "style" and give advice to make it a better overall sprite. There's no reason you can't try to convince people to break style slightly to make a better overall sprite. Might end up with what JUS style should have been. You could even try clever coaxing and make that happen without the OP realising it. Or be direct and say "I don't care if JUS style does it, I think you should try such and such with the sprite. Trust me, it will look better".
Doesn't matter if the style "sucks." Is he adhering to it?
Sincerely, I disagree.
Did Proton make a harsh post? Yes. But those points:
- shitty colour palette
- poor shading
- lack of hue shifting
- poor use of pure black
are all valid and seriously, JUS style isn't good. It's overdone because it is a unified style that has all the popular anime characters, and that's the only 'plus' the style has. Straying away from an objectively bad sprite is advice, at least for me.
But I do agree that the whole point of the sprite was to make her look JUS styled. Well, I'd say the same thing Proton said so I can't exactly add anything else to this. I'll let others give C+C on this.
that idle stance is terribly unnatural and it doesnt fit the character. at all.
Actually, tackling the style as the problem as a first step is the better plan of action.
If they're going for a set style in mind, then why go tell them small details if the overall is going to look
exactly the same as the style itself does?

No, probably not.
Because again,
if I think the style is shitty overall,
anything that changes will come off as shitty.
Why?
Because the changes would be made to fit that style.
If you enable the style, the style can stay.

oh man,
I'm sorry I didn't use some shitty buzzword to make him feel better.
baw baw baw
I sit on my stance the style should be thrown out the window,
and I don't need to gussy up the words so that it isn't as harsh.
Shouldn't matter too much, unless you think he's some 6 year old spoiled bitch that gets offended by a negative point.
Which I take the better of and say he's not.

Caby didn't.
He and SK used a mixture of the female characters in JUS and took some other bits from JSS.
Thanks for the criticism. I see what you all mean, as soon as I get to, I'll work on her.
I say the edit is fantastic considering it's pretty much a brand new sprite compared to what the poses are edited from. But you know TSR, we hate JUS
and some hate Paul Robertson because his metallic objects look organic lol

You've completely missed my point. I'm not telling you to be less harsh or anything like that. I'm telling you to be more
effective.
Tell them to break style in the areas the style is bad. Tell them how to fix it. Or at the very least tell them WHY the style is bad in those areas. Heck, even make a sprite that looks like what JUS style would be if it wasn't shit (Or any sprite that doesn't have its flaws), and rub their faces in it until they
understand JUS styles inferiority.
Being nice about it is merely an optional bonus in my opinion.
