Are the contestants supposed to vote? Also, are we supposed to vote for ourselves, or someone else?

vote for someone else
08-13-2012, 01:43 AM
Alright, I was planning to anyway.

okay I voted for the sprite that I felt was the most useful re imagining
also I know a lot of you guys already know who made which entries but it still seems kinda wrong to put the names of the contestants by each entry
also also you should post the guidelines of the compo in this thread so we know what exactly the criteria for rating the entries is
also(x3) when you said that this is "round one" I hope you didn't mean that there would be a round two (*of voting)
this only needs one round

It was a struggle to choose between the robot chicken and the robot Gon, but Gonbot eventually got my vote.

Remaking it in a different style and overhauling it's design are stated in a way that says "you only have to pick one of these, rather than both," and, because they're the main criteria, make this feel like two separate challenges that are happening to run concurrently. Also, the different style aspect (coupled with the subtheme), seemed to imply we were supposed to remake it in someone else's style, which only MegaMario and I did. Although that's probably a misunderstanding on our part.

You take any sprite you want as inspiration, and have to remake it in either a different style, or completely overhaul it's design.
Feel free to take liberties with any current design, but you may not deviate from the palette.
-you can enter As many entries as you'd like but only ONE will be considered able for judging.
The subtheme in this week is working under another artist influence. How can you ever hope to work in the industry if you can't handle a design that isn't originally yours!
On another note, wouldn't a more fitting title be "Remake This Sprite" ? This doesn't really fit under the definition of sprite theft, at least as far as we aren't taking anything other than the palette, and we aren't trying to pass off someone else's work as our own.

you forgot mine...but since im going to lose anyways it dosnt matter
08-13-2012, 04:38 PM
That's not really the point of the challenge. The point is to try.
08-13-2012, 05:48 PM
Hmm yeah I thought the challenge meant remake it in your own style hence why mine looks totally different. Minus the errors xD
Good luck everyone!

the challenge idea was really adapt a sprite into something new; everything else was just flavor. these kind of competitions don't have to be hard, and can be a lot more free form than others. I'll leave it up until 11:59 my time tonight, and then decide the winner.
Really though, I wanted to get the artists here thinking again! "What is pixelart?" "How is pixelart different from a piece of art with pixels?" Which I think some of you are on the track to understanding better.
It doesn't matter if you're one of those persons that still isn't. The thing about art isn't that you try and fail, it's that you should never fail to try.

It was pretty close between Chris and Virtuaboy123, but it looks like we have our winner! Chris2Balls will no doubt be posting his contest soon.
