I don't know about that. I would say that Capcom cares more about Street Fighter than Mega Man. Then again, I don't have any statistical data to prove anything, its just a hunch.
I think it's been pretty obvious lately how Capcom feels about Mega Man.
My point is what they are doing with this guy's fangame. The initial reaction in this thread is leaning negative but I see this and want to slap Sega in the face with it over that amazing Streets of Rage fangame.
Street Fighter was my childhood Capcom game, I never grew up with Megaman and the whole " Cash/Crapcom doesn't care about Megaman " thing just....I'm sorry but it gets on my nerves..I mean look at all the Megaman games that exist currently, there are many other games that never got sequels that I want sequels to, but I never bash the company for that
Like Gunstar Heroes
I got over it
no a better example
Look at StarFox Adventures, it probably would've been bigger if it stood Dinosaur Planet, General Scales would've never been kicked off for Andross...Again
okay I admit, I'm still mad about that
.
No, see this is the problem. We get honest attempts at trying to make Sonic I know Heroes is a stretch people hate Shadow the Hedgehog and 06' is now Game Grumps best video game series of being awful (How you survived that game Viepershark I will never know.) but you can't just be all: "Oh look people are mad about Capcom's bad treatment of the IP that made them household names coast to coast, let's get a Sonic and SEGA comparison."
Like, no.
Stop.
Please.
Sonic Colours, Rush, Generations are honest attempts at trying to do what can be done with Sonic. Capcom is sitting here telling us this is cool that they acknowledge the fans support of Megaman, and they're releasing this great 8-bit era game for free with their blessing. The thing that blows my mind most is no one at Capcom immediately said "We aren't even going to try another style or bit? I mean like we have sprites of Megaman Power Fighters for NEO GEO. Fuck it I can go on the internet and recolour these in less than an hour. No? Okay."
It's derivative, the novelty is past its' prime this isn't like the common disgruntled "Oh they are trying to be retro for the sake of being retro, there are so many creative ways to BE retro. Megaman Powered up Assets? I bet THOSE files are still ON file. If not I know a place you can get them (see what I'm doing here?). This isn't acceptable, it wouldn't be in any other form of media the shitty part is you can't even speak with your wallet against it because it's fucking free.
I LIKE the IDEA of this game, but seeing everything other than the character I'm constantly playing as in a new way is already boring. Plus I mean this and Rockman Xover are the Megaman 25th Anniversary games? SF get's a treasure chest (which 4 are sitting at my local game stop but that's irrelevant.) Capcom can spend $XXXXX on anything else but Megaman, I don't get it, I sit here and honestly just do not understand.
I also cannot see how you can compare SEGA risking everything to try and keep Sonic in good standing as opposed to letting him wither and die.
don't forget what other capcom series else is having a 25th anniversary.
this makes a good quick little title to just help the mix the two together.
you all know that they're making announcements for schedules with the Megaman and Street Fighter series on the 17th and after with release of the game?
If you are talking to me Omegajak, you've misunderstood me. First of all, Capcom isn't making this game. A random guy on the internet is making this game. Capcom is only promoting it.
Second of all. I didn't say anything about Sonic. Someone on the internet made an awesome Streets of Rage game that basically combined everything in the series into a single game, plus gave you the ability to make your own stages. Sega's response was to slap a cease and desist order on it (right at its release!) and then release a buggy port of Streets of Rage 1 to the iOS.
I'll repeat what I said before, Capcom treating fangames like this is a very good thing. It's the only good thing I can say about Capcom lately. And if anyone thinks Capcom is just doing this with fangames now in a lazy attempt to appease Mega Man fans, I urge you to look up the Mega Man Unlimited incident.
All I'm getting out of any of this is the same old argument;
"WE WANT A NEW AND ORIGINAL MEGAMAN"
"FUCK YOU, WE'RE CAPCOM WE DO WHAT WE WANT"
I think it's honestly time we just give up the ghost.

You have to wait until someone in the business cares enough. The fans matter very little, until a fan gets behind the chair and makes it him or herself!
That's what happened with Punch-Out!! and Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Not to derail but just dropping in to say that thanking his post would have sufficed rather than just re-posting it and not adding anything else to your post.
No hard feelings, just wanted to let you know~
So, I've looked up some screenshots of Mega Man X Street Fighter, and honestly, I'm Laughing.
Like out of everything Capcom could have picked, they picked up a piece of trash. Like all the bosses are sprite edits and there are just some maybe custom sprites in there and even we wouldn't hold up as good sprite work at all.
This fangame wouldn't hold up to tSR's standards of art, I have no idea how it plays, however, I think Capcom is basically just going to remake and reform the game into their own image for the most part, if they actually release it as piece of trash that it currently is, then I'm sorry, thats just a really shitty thing for them to do.
tl;dr- Capcom is probably just going to polish a turd. If not, then wow, just wow, I have no words.

No one's against Sequels they just have to be something other than Classic Megaman. I personally would love a Classic Megaman in Megaman 8/Megaman & Bass style.

But the joke was that I changed the end of the quote and didn't actually directly quote and made it a little more accurate to capcom's standards and stuff

Not only that, anyone remember the iOS Sonic CD port that was leauges better than what Sega originally had planned? That was also done by a fan. Basically, Capcom is just one of those companies that look like they refuse to participate with it's large fanbase *coughsquareenixcough* Also, they also want to avoid oversaturation of fan-made content, to avoid another L3 disaster and wind up like another certain animated series that's almost nothing much but fan-created content by now.
wow uhm
I put the trailer in the Game Lounge and then I see there's a topic for it right
so I come here and SHAZAM holy shirt it's hot in here from all these flames
I mean geez Capcom Unity and IGN are taking this better than you guys
yes it's a cop-out, yes it's not the BEST fan game out there
but then again remember Capcom Unity ISN'T NECESSARILY CAPCOM
I like to think of Unity as Capcom's little bro who rides a skateboard to work instead of driving
sure, Unity has some go-between with the main Capcom bosses, but it has a significant amount of "fan power" to it as well
I mean think about it, Big Capcom cancelled Legends 3, so if Unity was the same group WHY WOULD THEY CAMPAIGN TO BRING IT BACK
geez man Unity's just a group of fans who just happens to be supported by Big Capcom
and now they are supporting a fan game that honestly looks pretty fun in my opinion
for the fans by the fans
that's all I'm saying
these flames are too hot and I don't want to burn the fruit salad
