It actually places pixels slightly off-centered; this difference makes it annoying to pick colors with the eye-dropper/single pixel placement. Unless there is some setting option I'm missing, all brush strokes are anti-aliased, and the pencil scribbles get some of their pixels eaten.

Right-clicking the color is far easier for a color you use with the right mouse button. I could get used to it, but meh.

Opening a image file with the new paint messes up the transparent color, so even if you set said color as transparent, it'll still act like it isn't. The only way around this is to repaint the background with another color and setting the new color as transparent.

I've tried color-replacing in 7paint before and I couldn't/don't remember if I succeeded, either way I still don't reccomend it for pixelling at all.
Welll brushes are brushes :-)
except I use them to paint over large areas and block out colors, and automatic anti alias is something I don't really want, heheh

if you can get over those stuff, you can use it without problems. But I simply can't, I prefer using xp paint's more simplified look and its features.
Like I said, I'm using neither MSPaint versions as they all have things that don't go well with my workflow :-)
I use MSPaint personally. I don't know if that means anything but people tend to think I'm good.

this is why I continue using xp paint despite my comp being Win7. Vista's paint is somewhat better, with xp paint's architecture and 7's colors and more than 3 undos, but I don't really care for it.

Also holy shit, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed LITERALLY all of these things. How do I get XP/Vista Paint on my Win 7 comp?
you can get a stand-alone version of it by simply googling XP MS Paint, it's not that hard to find. I could send you a copy of it but it's in portuguese.

Another way is to find a XP computer, open its WINDOWS folder and find the actual exe, copy it into a flash drive and voilĂ

you can't replace 7paint for XP paint though, so you'll need to boot it up manually everytime, but it's worth it since it gets rid of all the listed problems above
Well, I tend to use Game Maker Studio as my Pixel Art Suite. It has infinite zoom, alpha channel support, animation support, shortcuts for tools, and is really awesome to work with.

I am working on my own Pixel Art program however, so hit me up if you have any ideas for features. I've already got quite a few things going on with it, even a 3D voxel art mode to work on 3D models as if they were pixel art.
The only real reason I use Paint.NET to do pixels is because I really like to use layers. It makes it more organized, IMO. Also transparency.

You can change the size of your pencil stroke.

Its the same thing as brushes in XP.
The stroke options are really limited, you can't make super-fat strokes with the pen tool. The eraser doesn't get much bigger either. So both are not really usable for blocking out large areas... Microsoft improved a few parts with MSPaint on Windows 7, but messed up about just as many other things.

MS Paint>Paint.net

I could give you a link to Paint XP if you want...
Blasphemy(kidding), though I use ms paint I think that Paint.net is better due to all the extra features, but it's learning curve is higher.

(the rotation feature really helps when making poses).
I use GIMP, the GUI is a little cluttered but it didn't take me long to get used to, its also very simple to turn on and resize a grid to suit your spriting needs, I guess to each their own.
MS Paint has a grid too. I also you gimp. But I rather us MS Paint for pixel art. I'm feeling old school.
I think that it's down to preference. I've only used Paint, but I can see why something like Photoshop could be of use with layers, transparency, and simpler colour selection.
