X for me.

Called it. As soon as this image showed up "wait.. I've seen something like this somewhere before". Then the pirate popped up in my head. I know somebody else said the same thing on a couple of boards but whatever. Yarrgh.

This makes me think there will be a sort of Pokemon Snap minigame.

Anyway, Chespin looks like an Oshawott ripoff. Fennekin doesn't look so fierce. BUT, Froakie looks rad. He looks original and well thought out. The Dragon/Bird Legendary looks very cool and the Deer legendary looks dumb. The main protagonists look like something that would come off of Pokemon Colosseum. I feel as if this came out too early. They at least should have waited until next year or something. I still haven't played Black 2 & White 2! (Is it worth getting?)
I hope it doesn't actually go grid based with the movement
What I kind of wish happens in this generation is some balancing of pokemon from previous generations. If you look at the different generations stat-wise, a lot of the older generation pokemon fall short while lots of the newer ones excel. Granted that's not always the case, but I feel like some of the cooler older pokemon could do with a slight tweak in power or abilities. Maybe that's just me, though. I don't remember exactly where I got this thought from.
Which would require them to make the old games incompatible with these, AKA not allow transfers. Which I would be fine with but I think a lot of people might be a bit angry about and I'm not sure Game Freak is willing to go through with that, especially since we've been able to carry over since Gen III.
That is true, but how viable are transfers from the DS to 3DS for this kind of game? I honestly don't have any idea.
ok too much at once for me

i dont like the broken tradition of starters

non reptile grass is ok thing, not that i like the grass starter

fire should have stayed in the zodiac, too generic choice anyway

water looks too not pokemon, looks ok

they look less like pokemon every gen

thats my only complaint

what the fuck is chespin anyways

bulbapedia says hedgehog what the fuck
Princess Mononokemon!!!
Spirit of the Forest all the way.(I call this thing getting a night walker mode in Pokemon Z)

what i think
- be nice if this pokemon game featured other miyazaki creatures (ohmu, giant solider god, laputa robots, totoro, various spirits)
-Y legendary looks like darkrai and one of the many winged legendaries had a baby
-N will make an appearance
-like the designs of the water type and fire type, however we already have a fire fox and more than enough water frogs Sad
-Grass type is like a plant version of oshawott(meh).

i'll buy it however.

Also how exactly have the fire starters followed the zodiac when cyndaquil's family are weasels or is it not Chinese zodiac????

cyndaquil's pokedex entry says it's a fire mouse

mouse/rat = zodiac
Cyndaquil is more of a special case as he only qualifies due to his classification as the "fire mouse" pokemon, so yeah, he would have more or less broken it way back in the second gen if it wasn't for that small detail (which only really counts for his first form anyways).
which is really an echidna

just like pikachu is more of a rabbit
Understood, maybe they'll say this fire fox is a Dog then (stays within zodiac)

I know it's a fox but why are people really bitching about this? Not like we haven't seen it's evolutions yet so who knows maybe it will evolve into a dog-like pokemon at some point.

besides personally I kind of like the change, it kind of gives things a new twist in my opinion.
Yeah, I mean, they're making the jump to 3D, it's a perfect opportunity to mix things up. Breaking starter tradition is just one way of doing that, as would be changing the mechanics around or introducing customization, as well.

Speaking of customization speculation, anyone notice that the character's glasses get left behind after the vine swing? Despite it very obviously being a glitch, the fact that they're a different object may hint at customization options. Or it could just as easily mean that the glasses are an equippable key item or something, it's just fun to guess at things.
What I really like to imagine is that there was NEVER any intended theme and that it was entirely coincidence. That'd be hilarious.
