well Previous' was mostly anti-aliasing, to smooth the eye, which yours needs. its also shouldn't have that corner up there, should be less blocky etc..
Yeah I think I see what you mean. Knuckles' eyes definitely are more oblong, but I can sacrifice that a little to get rid of that obnoxious hard corner. And I did just now try to shade around the eyes more -I just wanted it to be less obvious than Previous'. Just enough to show that he has a little bit of a brow and that his eyes aren't just glued to his face. Looking loads better now.
Thanks all!
Meanwhile, I think it's going to soon be time to try out some animation with this, another first for me. Any last-minute crits on this idle sprite from anyone else?
Also, here's the latest:
Updated again to include changes in 1px version, white background for true color!
for future reference, always show a 1px ratio version of any new edits as well so we can tell how effectively the new changes actually work (you don't need to re-upload this though).
it does look better but you banded the shading around the edges of the eye which is a no-no.
Changed his shoe angle, gave him a tail (facepalm) and changed a few colors, narrowed up his eye a little.
Tried out a quick idle animation, will probably eventually make him shrug.
