Honestly, I'd rather magikarp have a homerun bat type function.
My take from the direct:

-Zero suit Samus. That is the first time Zero suit Samus has felt like Samus, at least visually. I sort of agree with the heels being silly for someone that is more likely to be a practical fighter, but its easy enough to come up with acceptible reasons why she would (From couldn't find a non-heel jet boot in her size, to heels are better for damage, to Chozo tech trying to adapt to the fact she doesn't have a claw where her heel is)

-Mother brain, Dark Samus, Metroid, and the biggest likelyhood that Ridley is a stage boss only, seems to suggest that Nintendo is trying to deal with the metroid rep issue (namely lack of characters best suited as playables) by cramming as many of the best to represent the series into the next best things as possible.

-Smash run: I like the idea overall. I'd like to point out two things among the enemies I noticed. First, return of a few subspace enemies. Subspace may not return... but its not being "retconned" out either, so there's hope for a few things I would think would be neat still (Namely if ROB returns, he gets an ancient minister outfit, and Power glove master hand). Secondly: KREMLINGS, not snomads. Implications are great here.

-Assist trophies: Yay midna. Sort of dispointed and happy about Lyn at the same time. Lack of Issac is great though.

-They appeared to have changed some final smashes. This is good. Also opens up possibilities in the case of Pit and Dedede, since their FS were a good argument on why some characters wouldn't appear, and since one is no longer true, and the other is schrodinger's waddle dee...

-Custom movesets: Crack theory time, there's a possilbity that certain moveset customizations may change the characters visual look, if they don't havealt costumes normally. I HIGHLY suspect this to be true for Mario. I suspect you'd be able to change mario into Dr. Mario, pills and all, even if you can't pull him in the Dr. outfit.
(Maybe they'll sneak in a few clones this way, or at least their movesets ("OH I LOOK like marth, but I'm really Roy."))

I also suspect they may allow you to give characters who have had their movesets changed their old movesets, including FS. (Not sure about being able to Zelda/Shiek switch again, same with Samus/Zss, but its possible)

In the cases of characters with a HUGE ability/weapon list, I suspect nintendo will attempt to allow them access to as many of their other abilities as possible. I don't think Samus has too many abilities that couldn't be incorporated as tweaks to her current stuff, so this is likely true for her, especially with the information we currently have.

I'd like to be able to change Link's moveset of a "best of a certain game." Well... not likely transformation masks, but maybe fire/ice rod, the staffs, maybe a spinner, and so on.
Same sort of things with the other character with huge power lists (Mario, Megaman, Kirby)
Of course this is all just random speculation.

-greninja. I suspected the "mewtwo trolling" the moment he appeared... but until he was fully shown, my train of thought was "That's not quite mewtwo... Giygas? is that you?"
From what could be seen in the trailer, I don't think the customization system will go that in depth. At the very least, from what they showed, it seems you are able to modify the properties of the abilities already established (Mario shooting a slow, large fireball, Mario rapid-firing small, straighforward fireballs, etc.), so you'll be able to change the trajectories of projectiles, make some attacks lag more, lag less, have different effects, stuff like that.

Well, that's just my crack theory. I more reasonably think that its basically just tweaks, but visual tweaks for projectiles/ what projectile is fired may be included as well. So Dr. mario pill skin for Mario's fireball, bombchu replacement for Link's bombs. And thats about it.

I'd like to be able to toss hammers with Bowser though...
I for one am liking the customization so far. I was watching, and Greninja appeared and I was like [Image: Wut-babka.jpg] I'd never even heard of Greninja! I don't play Pokémon, so that has something to do with it but really? Greninja? I would of much rather of had Mewtow or even Rayquaza.
Not sure why you wouldn't want Greninja, FinalSmash. Not only is he one of the coolest water starters since Swampert, but his excellent speed is a good compliment/contrast to a powerhouse like Charizard.

Anyway, while wanting to have Mewtwo in the game over Greninja is understandable, I'm scratching my head about why you want Rayquaza of all things. Considering how it moves and it is even larger than Ridley, Rayquaza would work better if it remains a boss.
Well if I had my choice, only Pikachu and Charizard would make it in, as I've never played Pokémon, so I'm not familiar with most of them.
Well, for me, the only four Pokémon games worth playing for me are the the ones in the first two generation games (and the third one to an extent) and the newest sixth generation. I honestly don't care for a lot of the Pokémon that came out after the first three generations (even though I do have some exceptions), but you're missing out a little bit by not even giving Gold and Silver a try.
Am I being too optimistic thinking Mewtwo has a bigger chance now that Charizard can become Mega Charizard X, so that there's Mega Mewtwo Y, the one from the movie? It makes sense.

Of every Gen 6 Pokémon, Greninja makes the most sense. Starter, unique signature attack and there's not a single legendary with the build to be a fighter.

Sceptile would fit as the grass starter among Charizard and Greninja, but I'm a little sceptical about that.

Honestly, I see nothing wrong or impossible about a roster with about 10 Pokémon in them. After all, it's a hyper popular franchise with over 700 potential fighters. We have Pikachu, Lucario, Charizard and Greninja now. Jigglypuff is a given. Add Mewtwo and a grass starter and we have 7. Seems realistic.
I like your logic, Nick, but can I throw in my two cents on what you said?

While it is true that almost all of the legendaries do not have the potential to become a fighter (with the exception of Mewtwo), I think a good possibility for them to try is to somehow turn Victini into a fighter in a future Smash Bros. game (probably not this one since I think it is already a Pokéball summon).

Not only does it have a similar body structure to Pikachu, but (unlike other small legendaries that share its frame) it is also relatively grounded. Personally, I would see this guy being a powerful lightweight character with fast (although very hard to control) attacks.

I can see Sceptile being the grass starter of choice, but I think it's previous form, Grovyle, is a little more sleek and a slightly better choice.

As for the seven fighters thing, I can actually respect that for Pokémon. It has a lot of good characters to choose from and the ones you pointed out give a good balance between the elements. What makes me said, though is that with characters no longer switching out to alternate forms, that would mean that the Pokémon Trainer is less than likely to appear again. If he did, though, I would imagine him acting similar to the Villager (i.e. pulling out Pokémon from hammer space to aid him in battle).

The difference here is that you want to knock it off, not just attack it.

I would if I could. But I'm not allowed. My mom says it's connected to satanic stuff or something like that. Question :/

Sorry to hear that man, you're missing out on some great, wholesome fun.
i've been chatting with some friends about the playable pokemon situation, and we speculate there's going to be a playable grass type starter to make up for the loss of ivysaur. charizard stays, greninja replaces squirtle, and a third starter replaces ivysaur--maybe serperior, to give gen 5 some rep?

so, until proven otherwise, i'm sticking with pikachu, lucario, charizard, greninja, serperior, and jigglypuff.
buuut i'll still take the opportunity to say "i knew it" if we get a grass starter that isn't serperior. :P

So, you have one of those parents, eh? I knew they existed, but I never would have thought you (of all people) would have one.

Well, if you can't own a single Pokémon game due to your mother's eye, then just do what others like you did before and play it at a friend's house or something. Besides, I'm sure someone like Jesus would be cool if you play with "Satan's minions" behind your mother's back as long as you don't commit any other sins.

Well here's the thing; I would be disobeying, and I'm not going to do that. Secondly, I don't know anyone who has a Pokémon game. I have like 3 friends, one only plays Xbox(he changed once he stopped going to a Christian school), one doesn't really play games(the only one he ever plays is SSBB), and the other I'm basically a clone of.
