On the topic of the game needing a grass starter, my question is why does it necessarily need one? I know from a Pokemon standpoint it creates a typing triangle, but that statistic doesn't really pertain to Smash. I feel like it is good how it is now, with the oldest fire starter and youngest water starter book ending the entire series. The rest of the slots should be reserved for the most popular and recognizable choices, and those that are grandfathered in from previous smashes (a la Jigglypuff).
Then again, if a grass starter is what the people really want, who am I to argue?

So, you have one of those parents, eh? I knew they existed, but I never would have thought you (of all people) would have one.
Well, if you can't own a single Pokémon game due to your mother's eye, then just do what others like you did before and play it at a friend's house or something. Besides, I'm sure someone like Jesus would be cool if you play with "Satan's minions" behind your mother's back as long as you don't commit any other sins.
Well here's the thing; I would be disobeying, and I'm not going to do that. Secondly, I don't know anyone who has a Pokémon game. I have like 3 friends, one only plays Xbox(he changed once he stopped going to a Christian school), one doesn't really play games(the only one he ever plays is SSBB), and the other I'm basically a clone of.
I'd like to point out, that if I recall correctly, the (a?) pope even said it was harmless... so.... go find the article and show it to your mom?
Really? Well I don't know, I don't really want to push the issue, she's under enough stress as it is, with homeschooling 4 kids, running me to weight training at the school 4 days a week, baseball's starting for me and my brother, she doesn't like the new pastor at our church,...
Aaaaaaanyway, away from the religious stuff...
Of course we'll get a grass type! Just like in Melee when we had the electric/normal/psychic triangle.
Oh, wait. No, we're not getting a grass type. There's no obligation to have one.
since the dawn of forever I wanted Poliwhirl to join the Smash Battle. I even had a dream that he replaced Jigglypuff in Smash Bros 64!
Greninja's confirmation means that at least I get to play as a blue frog thingie in Smash!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if it's not the blue frog thingie I wanted
Man Gredninja surprised me at first, you know whats sad i thought Gredninja was Takamaru at first cause of his surikans 0.0
also
at 18 seconds in to 36 seconds in is my reaction to any newcomers in any smash bros games.

now i know how much of an asshole i sounded when i responded to kriven some pages back. sorry.
this is so rude, man. i made legit speculation and you're just like "haha no, you have ABSOLUTELY no basis. go away."
thanks.
so anyway, how's about that music? there wasn't a whole lot of new pieces showcased, and some were hard to hear over the voice-over, but in particular the punch-out!! fight theme mix during little mac's section and the smash 64 theme mix at the end of the stream really stood out to me. i've kind of fallen out of brawl's soundtrack in recent years, so i'm hoping this score will top brawl's in production values and diversity.

Oh my god, yes! That'd be the single greatest thing ever since the Cuccos. I always wanted those guys in!
Ah well, I enjoyed the Direct, but I was kind of bothered by that ominous nod to Ridley. I mean, if he was indeed a boss, why not show him already? Why keep building hype that would eventually lead to dissapointment? This is one fishy case, my friends...
Also, Greninja caught me the frick off guard.

We already have a complete typing triangle with the current roster of pokemon.
Water/Dark -> Fire/Flying -> Fighting/Steel -> Water/Dark
What if by "Characters will be Cut" Sakurai specifically meant the fact that "Pokemon Trainer" won't be coming back.
And no actual fighters are leaving.

So I'm not sure if anyone mentioned any of this yet but I noticed some odd things with the whole Ridley's shadow thing.
-If you compare the shadow's size with Pikachu, you can tell that Ridley's size has been reduced greatly compared to his Brawl appearance, plus the fact that you can see his wings clip on screen implies that he's close to the ground so his shadow's size is probably a fairly accurate gauge.
-After he flies past the camera, based on the location of his shadow, it seems as though he stops somewhere between the center and left edge of the stage, and whats more, he continues to face the left (meaning he'd be looking away from the center of the stage). I'm sure that if he is a boss, he'd probably be somewhat like his Brawl counterpart, mainly in the sense that he would probably face the larger, more open section of the stage and not leave his back open in such a way.
-If you look at his shadow, once he stops, he goes into what appears to be an idle. It's interesting because his idle actually seems rather relaxed. He then goes into some attacks, but whats odd is his movements while attacking, like he's actually moving around in a somewhat random while doing his attacks. The movement has less of a predetermined boss feel, and looks more like he's being controlled directly.
Long story short, I think Ridley may be playable. The entire Direct had Sakurai trying to throw us off, so I wouldn't be surprised if Super Metroid Ridley was playable and Other M RIdley (a clone of the original) is a boss. Take it as you will, I just thought it was interesting.
Where are Captain Falcon, Wario, Jigglypuff and Ness?
I'm sure Wario will be the next veteran reveal.
As for the others... I suppose it's possible that every single character we've seen so far is a starting character and the others are unlocks that won't be revealed until after the 3DS launch? Just a thought, though I doubt it'll be correct.
Oh hey the forums back.
I gotta say this direct was great but sakurai is really messing with my mind on the thought of playable Bandana dee and Ridley :'(
