50 playable smash characters??
35 to 50 isn't a huge stretch.
no but 35 to 50 is a huge gap. I hope it is 50, cause moar.
And they're definitely building the game over Brawl as opposed to starting from scratch.
If anything though, It might be cool to see Mewtwo returning. And uh, well, Roy as well.
Mewtwo is relevant again because of X & Y. How is Roy relevant?
Anyway back to Pac-Man. I still have hopes that he will show up in the game.
(Roy hasn't been important since fe6... Even then, he was a narc.)
The Namco Bandai options come down to three characters. Pacman, Lloyd Irving, or Nightmare. Since Nightmare is a huge stretch, Pacman or Lloyd are the options. Pacman has the legendary status behind him, but Lloyd has a giant track record with the company and has proven himself to being quite popular and not foreign to fighting.
So mostly it comes down to which the creators of the game are going for.
Roy was a DLC for Awakening and has a ridiculous fanbase.
A vast majority of players of Fire Emblem 6 hates him, his fanbase exists from Melee itself. Roy being important enough to the series he is a part of is extremely doubtful.
Fire Emblem will most likely only have two characters. Marth is a given, Chrom will most likely replace Ike.
I don't think we'll be seeing Roy again, unless he shows up as some kind of alternate skin for Marth. Lucina from Awakening could be utilized in that way, too. Hopefully we'll get more than palette swaps for characters this time. You know, I'd really love to see an alternate model for Link based on the Zelda 2 design, as unlikely as that is.

Yeah, I never liked the new look either. The angular breastplate in particular is really cringeworthy, as is the arm cannon.

Quite frankly I read somewhere that Sakurai doesn't want the roster to be much bigger than the Brawl one because he believes the size Brawl has is "feasible" and that it's difficult making sure such a high amount of characters are all balanced and tweaked.

Honestly Pac-Man and Bomberman are likely given that I remember hearing that Sakurai wants to put an emphasis on more old school characters from the older systems.
I'm not so sure about any other third party characters though.

That's kind of ridiculous to be honest. Even if you have less characters in a fighting game there's still going to be some balancing issues.
Hell even the original Smash had it's fair share of shit. I don't remember if it was Pikachu or Fox that overpowered the rest of that roster but I'm fairly certain there was one character in there. I wouldn't be surprised if there are balancing issues in this one.
