It looks interesting.
Though for some reason I get this feeling that so many HD 2d platformers have the same artstyle. It's probably unfounded, but it still feels that way sometimes. And besides, it's a nice artstyle, too, lol.
What happened to they're original Shantae game they were making. I could have sworn there was a different Shantae in the works.
EDIT: Yes there was! Shantae and the Pirate's Curse for the 3DS. I wonder if its still coming out...

Yep, Pirate's Curse is planned to come out for 3DS eShop Winter 2013.

I feel that way about realistic games. Every realistic game looks alike to me, aside from setting naturally. But so many games use so much brown and gray, it's become uninteresting to look at.
This looks really pretty and colorful, and definitely looks like a world I'd want to check out when I could.
While I agree that there are a lot of HD 2D platformers out now that have similar art styles, I feel like it works well with this game in the fact that the Shantae series itself is pretty light-hearted. The art style along with the bright colors seem to fit.
Also, the lead animator for Skullgirls, Mariel Cartwright, is going to be doing the animations for the game.

Pretty sure her idle anims were just as bouncy(If not moreso) in the other games. I think. I'll have to double-check.
...Really wishing that Kickstarter accepted European currency, by the way.
I just backed this for $25.
Let's hope it makes it all the way.
