Sorry if it seemed like I was trying to be a smart ass or whatever, I was honestly just coming up with points as to how/why Rosalina could be in the game without causing any issues in terms of current or prior plot.
Mario is all about inconsistencies, sometimes he can breath in space with no helmet, sometimes he can't, Bowsers and peaches castles seem to change geometrically every game and damn time warps of Baby mario and Luigi appearing with regular Mario and Luigi at sporting events.
Basically don't get too held up when the plot changes for Mario and characters in a new game.
Basicilly, this video sums up the general gist of the continuity in Mario games.
In other words, it doesn't make sense, so just roll with it.
Well we have a loose continuity. Mario's continuity is more dependent on who the characters are rather than the events themselves.
For example saying "Mario and Luigi are brothers" is a solid canonical statement that cannot change from game to game. But saying "there's no air in space" is not something that will stay consistent with this type of canon. The laws of physics and science will change from game to game, but Mario and Luigi will still be brothers.
I want this game more and more the more I see and read about it. The fact they were willing to step outside the box and make at least a few new-looking boss characters this time around is just awesome (though Galaxy was decent at that, taking previous enemy assets and reimagining them into a boss design).
Also part of me really wants to see Captain Toad in a Smash Bros game someday as a small, heavy character (which there aren't really many of).

That's what Funky Kong said back in the early DKC games, but then he went on to show up in the Mario Kart and Barrel Blast games.
That may be so, Ton, but isn't comparing adventure games to racing games no different from comparing apples and oranges?
You know what else is like apples and oranges? Comparing intangible video game characters to living and thinking human beings.
You guys are welcome to your opinions about this but GOD you go on and on about the most trivial things sometimes. Why don't you open up a new thread about your Rosalina debacle and keep this thread to conversations about this awesome game?
That was my point. There are inconsistencies everywhere. They don't care. It's all about what will get people to buy/enjoy the game.
Like I said before, Miyamoto and his team think about the gameplay first before they think of the story. Even if a lot of things don't make a whole lot of sense, we could always count on at least having a fun game to play (even if it was the black sheep of the Paper Mario game, Sticker Star was at least enjoyable when you think of it more as a Mario platformer instead of an RPG).
For my opinion on playable Rosalina, I think this is a good addition to an already awesome game in the Mario series (especially considering that the series has been stale as of late). It's always a real treat to play as one of the side characters in a game that isn't a sports spinoff, so how about we leave it at that?
Wish there was more than just her. Waluigi and Wario deserve the role of extra characters much more, people have wanted them in these kind of serious high budget games forever. Especially Waluigi.
Why where Wario and Waluigi not in New Super Mario Bros Wii/U is beyond my knowledge
Well, I can see why Wario wasn't in NSMB. I mean, people would expect him to have his tackle, and I honestly can't imagine him wall jumping.
When NSBMW came out, Miyamoto claimed Wario and Peach were not playable because their builds were too different from Mario and Luigi and that it would interfere with gameplay.
I've always wondered why they did two generic toads instead of Toad and Toadette.

Colour pallets, though the absence of Toadette
is a little odd. Maybe they just thought pink was a little too close to red. After all, Peach has a big blonde head. Toadette is pink all over.
