D'oh! You beat me to it, E-Man! I was gonna post that this afternoon. Although, I wonder, why did you insert my sheet into yours? It only had the old walk cycle and the one I did that didn't fully fix the problem, so why include it?
Whoops! Sorry about that, Midi! I thought you were going to see my recent post sooner and then say something about it. I didn't realize that you went ahead and did it anyway. Would you like me to use those sprites instead?
Anyway, the "faulty" sprites you created are not going to be on the final sheet. I just like to keep them up for comparison reason and show people all the kind users who helped in on the sheet while it is a work in progress. Personally, I think you and Trollerskates are great sprite artists and I couldn't have made a great sheet without you two.
Happy Halloween, my friends! Since today deals with creepy things and even the dead, I created some damage sprites for my Goomba and even added a squish animation! What do yo think of them?
Here's an interesting question. When a Goomba becomes a zombie, is its whole body intact (besides the decay of course), or do you have to deal with a living "flapjack" of sorts?
Well if you squish them, that would mean you'd destroy their brains, leaving them unable to reanimate by normal zombie standards.
I never thought much into the science and mechanics of zombies, so that's very insightful, Gwen.
Still, it's a shame that it doesn't work that way because I honestly was hoping to see a Ghost House in a Mario game that is haunted by reanimated pancakes.
That's assuming goombas have typical brains though. Animated pancakes could still work because
1) Mario logic allows one to throw some typical logic out the window.
2)Being a mushroom/plant (heard somewhere goombas aren't mushrooms) their nervious system may be more spread out over the whole body and may withstand squishing more.
As for the squish... it animates well.. but it's like its being squished by a wedge that also flattens, since it almost looks like its spliting in some frames.
Wow! I'm glad you are able to prove that we could see pancakes haunting a Ghost House!
As for the "splitting" bit, it's actually caused by the impact of the character stomping on the Goomba. It causes ridges of skin to form, while the head gets flattened into a bowl shape of sorts. Are you saying that I should just keep it flat the whole way through?
I think the goomba should squish all at once instead of his head getting pushed down.
During its hurt animation, both its left eye and eyebrow remain static, and so does its "stern". Maybe those could move a little too?
Wow! That Halloween was absolutely nuts! Apparently, some guy named Kevin came back from being banned and took over this web site! Sure, he did treat me very well when he was in charge, but banning the admins and throwing a tantrum of sorts just isn't kosher. I'm glad that our friendly neighborhood vampire took care of it all in the end.
If it wasn't a Halloween prank arranged by the staff, I would have been sincerely concerned. Still, it was exciting and it gave me good laugh in the end!
Moving on, though, I took the advice of Terminal Devastation and Trollerskates into mind and came up with this new squish animation. How is it?
As for you, SchAlternate, what if I were to move the body a little to make the static eye look like it's moving? Also, what do you mean by "stern?"
By the way, SchAlternate, I like the new avatar you're using, but something's missing…
That's better!
That's strange… I made a nice edit for SchAlternate's avatar, but he didn't say a word about it… Well, if he doesn't find it on his own soon, I may as well PM him to ask him to have a look.
….. Aw well! That's not a big deal! It
s best that I shift my focus back to the sprites now.
I made a lot more posses this time around, including a frozen one. I made three variations of the finished one (the ones that have the snow and icicles), but which one should I use? Personally, I would go with number two or number three. Also, you know how some items in the
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker show that streak of light that zooms across the surface of some of the shiny objects in the game? Should I do something like that for this frozen Goomba?
Now then, here are the posses. Do you see any that need to be changed?
Sleeping (shhhh…)
Popup (in case you don't like the idea of a Goomba getting killed by squishing it)
I tired to make the Goomba move after getting squished, like it did in
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, but this is the best I could do for such a compressed creature. Is it fine as it is, or do I need to do more?
This is an alternate popup sprite for the Goomba after it is done walking with a flattened head.
This one is also from
Yoshi's Island.

Looks alright. And I meant to say stem. English be not me first language, y'know

IT'S PERFECT YOU'RE NOW MY FAVORITE PERSON EVER.
His feet seem to move a lot for sleeping...
Dang! It's been ages since i updated this sheet! Let's fix that, shall we?
By the way, Goemar, I know that his feet are moving, but only did that because his upper body was moving, too. Regardless, I won't make the feet move this time.
Not only did I decided to go with option three for the frozen Goomba, but I also made an alternate way of shading the Goomba. What do you think? Also, you think I should create sprites of the Goomba jumping from left to right in addition to him jumping from right to left (which I already did)?
Anyway, here are some more animated posses.
Sleeping (fixed)
Slipping on ice (Dang ice levels!)
Surprised
KO'ed (when using the squish posse would like weird of you defeated a Goomba using a laser attack)
By the way, I'm thinking of wrapping up my sheet soon enough, but before I do, any suggestions on which posses I should do? So far, what I have in mind is…
- Goomba with a raccoon tail
- Goomba in his wind up shoe
- Headbonk
- Dizzy
- Laughing
- Entering and exiting a door
- Combat
i dislike mario sprites because you need to do a lot of 'edit' powerups, forcing you to go over the base sheet a ton of times. hope you don't get bored by it
