Well, I was a member of the DYKG forum, maybe 3-4 months before it shut down. That sounds about right. Then, when it had the merger and became VGFacts, I jumped ship and became a part of that. I'd actually been checking out this place every other week or so when I joined VGFacts because it had my curiosity but I wasn't exactly sure what it was until I actually dedicated some time to it. I figured that I could get some advice with some of the projects I'm working on at this site I've been on for about a year now, called Gamesprout, and I guess I either wasn't getting enough feedback, or I was doing something wrong, and I just kind of stuck around. I'm kind of going back to the looking for advice because I'm currently the only artist on 2 projects and I'm neither a competent spriter or artist.
I kinda just wandered in and never really left~

Quick story behind it, there was this podcast Jordan, Dazz and I believe Rogultgot and Jonathan Explorer. Could also be Bacon. Anyway, at some point, people were riffing on Jordan, and at some point we tried to goad Jordan into saying "I am not gay". You know, because earlier I made two other songs.
The song is the result.
Sounds like one of those hypnosis tracks in Zoolander.
For me, I started joining the VGresource community to add new sprites after my MFGG run. I believe I started with Yoshi's Cookie BGs years ago, but now I add sounds from various games...for the most part.
I joined PT then it become tSR and I followed.
I had seen and downloaded quite a few sheets from TSR. I followed some people on Pixeljoint here ; probably Dex, at a guess. From there I was pretty interested in the custom sprites and the community projects (Smash Bros project). I had difficulties integrating at first but it got better afterwards.
I used to be go to kc-mm.com and make PSAs and animations. Then, I wanted to take it further so I learned how to program. I also wanted to get better at animating but no-one offered any good criticism besides the butt pat.- So I left, stopped animating, and wanted to make my own game. Which brought me here to try and make a small game with some spriters... which never happened hehe.
I might get back into animating sometime. Here's what I did about 3-4 years ago before I stopped.

If I recall, I joined around the time of ninsprites. I was making an animal crossing fan game in game maker and I wanted to show some of my stuff I think. I think the thing that was my first post was a recolor i did of some MMZ styled samus sheet to Master chief from halo. What keeps me coming back are the faces I remember seeing from being on the forum for years and years. I'm not as active as I used to be but I do still enjoy coming back and seeing how the community is going.
I kind of wish that the spriting community was what it used to be though. A lot of the great pixel artists like badassbill, Frario, 1up, etc., that used to frequent these forums have moved on to bigger and better things. I am very glad for them though. Over my years of being here I've seen a lot of people blossom into doing great things. Tyvon with his game development, frario with his pixel animation for normalboots, BAB(Shane) with DYKGaming. Just seems like the spriters resource has been a great stepping stone for a lot of talent over the years.
This has actually been a really interesting thread with little bits of history thrown in!
My reasons for joining are a bit less related than the rest of yours though. I met Dazz a very long time ago on one of his earlier forums called Broken Invasion. At the time, a friend of mine was a member and told me I should join. I wasn't a spriter or really any sort of artist so I questioned why at first but he said it was just a good group of people so I figured why not?
There were probably around 13 of us that were truly active and for a while, it was a great group. Eventually, Dazz moved on to some other project (I can't remember which but it was likely brought up in this thread) and left me in charge of the original forum. Long story short, that forum wound up getting deleted because the host at the time didn't realize we were still using it and for a while, I lost touch with most of that group.
Dazz and I would occasionally talk and I lurked here for a while but never actually got around to joining until we discussed redoing tSR. I originally joined specifically so I could have the access I needed to work on the current system and start implementing the newer one. We figured it would look odd for a brand new member to suddenly be a Tech Admin though so we hid that fact for a while. Eventually, it was made public and then I switched to the Administrators group when I started dealing more with the community on a day to day basis.
So, there you have it - my motivation for joining and a bit of back story for me as well. While I originally didn't stray outside of the staff forum much, I've definitely grown to enjoy this community and have been trying to be more involved in general.
TL;DR I joined to make the new sites.

Jordan, dude!
Slept with the girl from lazytown? When did that go down... and is there a backstory??
It was in like 2006 or 2007.
Jordan was there.

uh i used to look at sprites on the website back when i was living in the USA cause there was nothing better to do than just watch TV and go on the internet
and at some point when i got back to france i tried ripping sprites and submitted some
then i started posting outside the submissions section
then i was made fun of by the krew cause i guess that's what happens to everybody
and thanks to the comics resource thread i think i started being accepted by people
since the gang left i pretty much pop in here and there cause the forum's still pretty okay
