First of all, did you know that Donkey Konga 1,2,3 are all Japanese made and feature playable Dixie and Funky? Also DK: King of Swing, DK: Jungle Climber and DK: Barrel Blast were all Japanese developed games. So saying the Japanese only use DK and Diddy is a completely false statement.
Second, from what I read, the Donkey Kong series is actually more popular than Zelda in Japan. This mostly has to do with the CG tv show which was insanely popular over there for some reason. I don't know where you're getting that Donkey Kong isn't popular over there.
Third, we already have Kritters running around in Smash Run. What's to stop him from putting more DK stuff?
Finally, Dixie Kong was actually considered for Brawl, and her name was found in the coding.
As expected, Lucina is a clone of Marth with subtle nuances, those being that rather than having a sweet spot on her blade she just does consistent damage throughout.
I'm wondering whether her Final Smash will be different at all, but what I'm REALLY wondering about is Robin and how his Tomes and Levin Sword work.

Uuhhhh ...
To be honest I think the presence of Lucina increases the likelihood of someone like Dixie Kong appearing in the game. In case you haven't noticed, there seems to be a lot of focus in this game on giving us plenty of gender options. Whenever the opportunity arises where a character can plausibly be one gender or the other, they've been sure to give us that option (Robin, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, and now Lucina and Marth ... kind of). And of course where straight up gender swaps aren't plausible for a character, they've tried to give us plenty of female counterparts. Zelda and Sheik for Link, Peach and Rosalina for Mario, Palutena for Pit.
Honestly with all this evidence I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Dixie included as the official DK female counterpart. Nor something like Krystal replacing Wolf. I honestly expect both Pikachu and Jigglypuff to have hats suggestive of both genders this time, or for Pac-man to have a Ms Pac-man costume. Really though, what I would REAALLY like to see is the inclusion of Tetra.
I'd be surprised if there wasn't a Ms. Pacman costume for Pacman.
If Krystal plays like Fox in Adventure, I'd love to see her. I don't want Wolf gone though, since he was less Fox-clone than Falco. He needs work though and definitively a different FS.
Also, I hate the word "replace". It's never true. Either a character is in or not. Lucario doesn't replace Mewtwo and doesn't indicate that it's impossible for him to return. If Wolf is out and Krystal is in, Krystal doesn't replace Wolf. Krystal's in and Wolf's out, that's it.
So it turns out Lucina is just about an exact clone of Marth.
I'm not going to say I told y'all so, buuuut
So some people were digging through the video, and the ending lag for aerials seemed to be cut in half. Pretty exciting, huh, considering that one of the complaints for the Smash demo was the massive ending lag for most aerials. I wonder if they did anything about the ending lag for throws too, so you'd could actually follow them up
Someone said that CoroCoro once said the same thing about Brawl but ended up showing "all the characters" that were currently on the site.
Anyway I hope that's not the case. Keep your fingers crossed.
I hope Lucina doesn't end up being a nerfed version of Marth. The Ganondorf to his Captain Falcon, if you will. That would be so not-okay.
Speaking of Ganondorf, they don't seem to have referenced him at all yet, as far as I know. Hm.

As a reminder, we still haven't seen:
Wario
Ganondorf
Ice Climbers
ROB
Metaknight
Falco
Wolf
Squirtle
Ivysaur
Jigglypuff
Ness
Lucas
Mr G&W
Snake
And yeah, I'm disappointed that Lucina is a clone. But as I mentioned earlier, I was prepared to see more clones after the Toon Link reveal.

Donkey Konga is a Namco game and is nothing more than a (good) clone of Taiko no Tatsujin. It's also weird to talk about "playable characters" in a rhythm game. The Paon games (Jugle Climber, King of Swing, Barrel Blast) are also all pretty bad, it's weird that you use them as example instead of Jungle Beat, the only good DK game before Returns, which is Japanese and also done by the Super Mario Galaxy team and even that was an exception.
Also where did you read that the DK series is more popular than Zelda in Japan...? I... highly doubt it. Maybe it was talking about the original arcade game or the time when the CG series added or the CG series itself or something? Because that doesn't make sense

On a somewhat relevant topic, Ganondorf was played a fair amount at EVO this year, and they all did pretty wel if I recall correctly. Surprised me to say the least, he's still really fun to play even if he's not amazing.
Oh yeah, Ganon's no slouch. If it wasn't for the fact that Spacies are a pain in the ass and Shieks chain grab, he'd probably be played a lot more
So with the inclusion of Lucina, I'm pretty sure we can expect returning clones like Ganondorf, Falco, Wolf and Lucas in some capacity. I've never been particularly dissatisfied with Ganondorf having Falcon's general moves, he's like the antithesis of one of Smash's greats.
I wonder if there are any other clones that could be expected. Pikmin has a lot of clone able characters that could put variations on Olimar's pikmin order. Of course I'm sure fans of pikmin would rather see a pikmin rep using new pikmin instead.

Personally I always found it absolutely hilarious to beat people using higher-tier characters, with Ganondorf. I'd say he is, without a doubt the least effective character you can use in Brawl, but that of course makes winning even better.
I'll still be let down if they don't
try to make him more balanced this time around though. He's just such a promising character.
i think the concept of using a low-tier character in competitive matches like evo/mlg is so silly
if you're playing with friends, sure, but i feel like in competitive if you pick something low tier you're either
a) confident as FUCK you're better than everyone or
b) really good at a bad character, which will usually put you at a disadvantage against someone really good at a good character
the first one is bad sportsmanship, the second is just... screwing yourself unless you're REALLY good. that said melee was pretty balanced so i assume it doesn't matter toooo much, but it still bothers me
LUCINA THE QUEEN IS A CLONE AND I FEEL FINE
