nope, he is an easy choice, not a good one. There are plenty of other mascots that fit the "fish out of water" placement style the game has had for 4 titles.
anyway, im rambling, don't mind me
TLDR: Ryu is a crap choice for DLC, imo
I'd be OK with it imo. Every dumpass Smash Bros fangame has Ryu, but I'm kinda curious how the character actually works out. Like, the specials are a shoo-in of course: fireball, shoryuken, hurricane kick.
but what about like, his forward smash
how actually lousy is that going to be
"oh yeah, jumping roundhouse, easy"
do you know how actually shitty that would be? I feel like Chun-Li would have actually worked out better here than Ryu, lol
I have a feeling that the "easy choice" that Ryu is isn't as easy as you'd think, as the character would practically have like zero range if they were to keep his SF2 moveset. :/

and then, RTB finds it
Code:
snd_bgm_Z84_F_Goku_WU.nus3bank
he jumps back, bewildered. "the legends........They Cannot Be True!! No" There is Little HOpe for People Humanity.
So this happened:
I can't go online, because I have "irregular save data". Probably some measure to prevent modded/hacked characters from going online. Mewtwo is to blame, but not the character itself. My 10-man Smash GSP has been reset to 0 after I played with him. I have cleared it with every character before, because of a Challenge, so I assume that because I cleared it with 1 character more than what the game thinks is the maximum, the game suspects modification.
I don't believe I'm severed from the internet forever due to this, because I'm not the only one with this issue. Nintendo broke it, not me. Besides, unless this somehow bans me from ever downloading DLC ever again, which I highly doubt, because I wasn't such a big fan of online to begin with, it doesn't really bother me. Not being able to share custom content kinda sucks, but I've seen enough subpar creations to get over that. At least I got a few things up. If you find content from the Netherlands by Timmeister (my brother's ID), that's the shit I put up.
Atleast you can download him. My 2DS keeps giving me some sort of "can't connect to the server bullshit" even though Smash recognizes that I'm online and every other thing that requires Internet works
Mewtwo doesn't do the propeller-attack when you do a dashing attack with a melee weapon anymore.
For some reason this makes me very sad.
Also my favorite Mewtwo color scheme from Melee is gone; ol' Green Tail. The closest thing we have now is a sickly yellow color.
I noticed that charging Shadow Ball doesn't damage players anymore. I also noticed the lack of a green Mewtwo, despite one being in Melee. Now I'm more than 100% sure they're avoiding Shiny colors for Pokemon with Mega Evolution Final Smashes. Sad, but understandable. But sad.
Shadow Ball also doesn't appear to zig-zag as much. But it has been a while since I've played him in Melee, so maybe I'm just remembering wrong.
[EDIT] Actually I think the weirdest thing about Mewtwo's Shadow Ball not hurting anyone during charge anymore is that he still continues to hold it out after it's reached full charge, which he will do indefinitely until you push a button to either fire or store it. This action actually served a purpose before, since you could use it to hinder other characters just by creating a field of harm, but now there's no point to it other than forcing the player to perform a second action in order to put it away. If they're going to take away the charge-damage, he should just automatically pocket it once it reaches full charge like Samus does.

I did not find a single hint as to the existence of those file names. I'm calling bull on that.
(EDIT: And on the topic of Mewtwo, I haven't been able to try him out yet because for some reason it's not detecting/downloading the update for me.)
I'm just upset the custom moves have to be unlocked. Better get back to grinding...

As far as I know, Mewtwo doesn't have custom moves.
It would suck if Mewtwo never gets customs, but I'd find his current lack of customs okay in one of two scenarios:
1. Early access for people with Club Nintendo codes excludes customs until official world release on 28th (or was it 23rd?)
2. Opening a ballot for voting on what custom moves Mewtwo receives.
As it is, I'm worried he may get none at all, which would suck since he is a DLC character. I could have sworn that one of his moves in the trailer looked like it could have been custom though...

well the 3DS does have different codes, the 3DS had references to cut Brawl vets as well that the Wii U version doesn't have.
Really we just need someone else to look at the 3DS files and confirm if it's legit or not.

If I can figure out how to download and unpack 3DS update data, I'll take a look. But judging by the fact that Nintendo actually updated the files to obfuscate the character/song names in the Wii U version now...
(EDIT: And yeah, I can confirm that Mewtwo does not have
any custom moves, there are only icons in the update date for the default B button attacks, no alternatives. Bit of a shame.)
So...
BAD NEWS!
At high level play Mewtwo is extraordinarily terrible for several reasons, he's about as good as he was in Melee.
GOOD NEWS!
He's fun to play I guess, he's basically the same.
Really? I heard he was like upper mid tier. Shadow ball is good for neutral, down tilt combos into a lot, nair has little lag, etc
Good news!
Tiers hardly mean shit in Smash 4, and even less at lower level competitive play. It's a lot balanced than Melee or Brawl, a match isn't unbeatable because you're using a lower tiered character
Nah man... I've been trying everything and he's just not doing as good as he probably should be. I know tiers are harder to judge in Smash 4 but this one seems to be a clear less than average.
